I first started drinking 6 months ago. I've tried a lot of beer and a lot of hard liquor. Hard liquor used to get me very drunk, but now it doesn't get me very drunk and when I do get drunk I don't stay drunk for long. It takes me half of a very large bottle of high quality vodka(80 proof, 40% alcohol) to get drunk, and it wears off in a few hours.
Beer, on the other hand, gets me extremely drunk and it lasts for a long time. Anyone else experience this?
Also, for a few days after drinking I always experience a bad cough with lots of mucus. I've looked online but I can't find anything about this. Anyone have this happen?

Veteran Drinker right here, The alcohol in beer is the same as the alcohol in vodka, wine, etc. Beer generally has a lower concentration of alcohol than vodka and other hard liquors, and except for some craft beers, has a lower concentration than wine.
As long as you consume the same amount of (pure) alcohol in the same amount of time, the source (beer, vodka, whiskey, tequila, etc.) doesn't matter.
However when your drinking pints of beer you drink them over a longer period of time so you stay drunk for longer then if you just drunk a 5th of vodka.
As for the cough, it could be down to 3 things. 1 dehydration 2. alcohol irratation of the throat 3. you were shouting a lot while partying! If it persists I would go see a doctor to make sure.
Hope this helps and I'll answer anymore questions you or others might have.

Histamine production causes a cough. pH in your stomache must get high producing a release of histamine from parietal cells. Stop drinking it, if it ceases, you know your problem. That or simply take an OTC antihistamine, though it may have a side effect in your body if consumed within a few hours of consuming alcohol. staysafeop.jpg
