Ok, so when I go to a recruiter and he asks me if i ever smoked, what do I say? I was never a heavy smoker, just did it occasionally. I am more interested in the whole process of getting in, life style there, which corp is the best and the money and benefits that come with it.

Well if you really want in stop fukkin smoking and say "No." Recruiter is just filling a quota, he's not an investigator.

If you ever get a security investigation for a clearance and they ask, be truthful though. "I smoked xyz amount, frequency, and I quit to join. Haven't smoked since xyz date."

I am more interested in the whole process of getting in, life style there, which corp is the best and the money and benefits that come with it.

air force taking too long for me to join (june of next year) so going for navy instead. thanks to everyone in this thread for their input.

idk if my navy recruiter is stringing me along. at first he's like "we usually don't get any billets for general nurses" then a week later he said "i think I could get you a spot" and so now I'm in the process of joining up. maybe he's trying to entice me in the sense of "wow! you got so lucky you got in! sign here quick before its gone!"

Bad advice. Tell the recruiter yes but only a couple times. If you ever needed a security clearance they will reference your previous paperwork.

This is advice straight from the mouth of a Secret Service interviewer, "**** it if you smoked pot or tried hard drugs once or twice, I don't care. Tell the truth and you'll be fine. The only thing I care about is getting your deepest darkest secrets that noone else knows about"

2 of my guys went to our doc and about it, got sent to civilian specialists for sleep studies, were diagnosed, and were out of the AF within 6 months. One was medically retired, I think he had 7 years in at that point. The other was a straight up medical separation at 3 years.

Just make sure what you want is in your contract. That's what you'll get. Sometimes things open up if another person is DQ'd. Just make sure it's in writing.

While on active duty (or in Delayed Entry awaiting boot camp), any drug usage will result in instant discharge.

Prior to enlisting, if you had minor usage ("minor" can only be defined by a recruiter), which has completely stopped (again, a recruiter would know the window), then they might be able to take you.
