Read this article to estimate your basal metabolic rate and then eat 400-500 calories above this daily.

Real men hit the weights AND do their cardio.
Passion doesn't pay the bills.

So you want to gain weight without putting on fat and you want to gain muscle well it's simple:
Simply
1. Eat More often
2. Eat more calories (15x your bodyweight(pounds) is the calories you should be eating anyway then add 500 calories and you should add one to two pounds a week)
3. Eat More Protein
4. Lift really heavy like reaching failure after 4-8reps
5. Get Plenty of rest between workouts.

Yeah, he got banned, but I still stand behind him. He's on a few other "more scientific" boards and is well respected. He rode amusclehead because he could see that amusclehead's knowledge is actually rather limited. Amusclehead was and is a farce. Sure he gives "good advice", but never gets beyond the basics. JH on the other hand is a strength coach who works for a major university, and is well recieved by his peers. His experiece ranges from pro soccer to pro rodeo. If JH were to write a paper on a particular way of traning without explaining himself he'd be out of a job. So if he gets banned for ridin' somebody about not backing up his advice, more power to him. The iron game already has to many "experts" who run their mouths and can't back their **** up.
Sorry for the rant but I felt I had to get my 2 cents in.
Peace.

Then why? I really don't think the mods here banned him because he exposed the differences between bodybuilding and training for strength. BTW, this is a bodybuilding forum right? Then why are there thousands of dudes on this board, but only a handfull that compete? I'll tell you why. Because this board is full of pimple-faced, candy assed, pansies who are so insecure with themselves, they can't even bear the thought of having their bodies critiqued against others in public. I mean, c'mon man it only takes about 1-2 years of dedication for the average guy to be in shape for a local comp. So, did JH get banned for pointing that out?
Just askin'
Peace

did it ever occur to you that maybe people here don't care about competiting?
i've been golfing for over 12yrs and have only entered 3 competitions. why- it's not my interest. it's boring
why don't i compete- because it's not my interest. i don't want to stand infront of a bunch of people flexing; i do this because i enjoy it, not to show off.
as for jh, it was a combination of his attitude and lack of maturity. he may have all the training knowledge in the world, but the way he handled himself was no better than a common 5yr. old. he was warned countless times to tone it down by different mods, yet he ignored them. he was asked countless questions by people on this forum, yet he irgnored them all to just bash me. he wasn't even trying to get along (i tried to burry the hatchet 100 times to save bandwidth with the fight, yet his response basically amount to **** off) here, and his last act of repeatedly spamming the boards with "questions" did it (keeping in mind he pulled this stunt numerous times in the past).
i don't see what the problem is; like he said months ago- either I leave or he gets banned, only way he'll be happy. so he must be happy now.

Actually, training for strength and bodybuilding is not a new thing, many people know the difference. Also, what gives you the balls to other people on this board pimple-faced pansies? People don't compete because they don't want to, I would find it very boring and pointless for i do not what any sort of career around this (though i'm going more for powerlifting now). Don't ever say why other people do ant don't compete for you have no idea. It takes a lot longer then 1 to 2 years, more like 3 or 4 years. How is that pointing anything out? JH acted like a very immature and childish. Now, shut your mouth unless you actually know what your talking about.
and what exactly is a dream, and what exactly is a joke?

Dude, relax. I really can't see where you're comin' from. He never flames ppl on other boards if they can give info with credible and documented reasons. You seem to be content with saying things like "upright rows are bad". Now I ain't sayin' the opposite, but you give no documentation to support your view. I'll see what JH has to say.
Peace.

because i know everybody likes to take me out of context, i'm not saying all of the upright row movement is bad, just the upper part. that's why cuban press is good replacement. takes the first part of it (that's fine on the shoulders), combines it w/ cuban rotation, and finishes w/ a miltiary press

Dude, any one with halfway decent genetics can place well in a local show in less than two years easy if they train and eat right.

ok so the only way someone can be a bodybuilder is if they compete? don't think so. I lift cause i enjoy it very much but why the hell would i go on stage and pose if i find it very very boring, that is something i wouldn't enjoy. You can lift and not compete, theres nothing wrong with that at all. I don't have the time to compete and since i'm not making a career out of bodybuilding there is no need for me to.
