    Lifting weights while dieting?

    I understand why someone who had lifted weights to gain muscle, and then decided to lose fat would lift weights, obviously to try and maintain their muscle. Thing is, I'm on a diet and I'm losing weight, but I'm not exercising at the moment. I'm going to start the gym and I'm probably going to do a little cardio for 10-15 minutes and circuits. But is there any point in me lifting weights at the moment? I can't really put on muscle at a calorie deficit from what I've read; or would it still maintain my muscle ? Is it possible to lose natural muscle while dieting that isn't from weight lifting or anything if I make sure my deficit isn't over 1000 cal?

    Not sure what to do really.

    For circuits I'm going to do something like:

    Jumping squats (10-15), High knees (10), Press-ups (10-15), Burpees (10), Bent over barbell rows (10), sprinting on the spot (20 seconds), ab crunches (15), Star jumps (10) I'll do this 3 times with a 1 minute break in between.

    Lifting weights is the most important thing you can do during a cut.

    If you are new to lifting, you might even gain some muscle despite being in a calorie deficit.

    When you diet but don't lift, all you're going to do is end up creating a skinnier version of your fatter self (aka, skinny fat).

    Lifting weights minimizes muscle loss while on a cut so yes, lifting weights is absolutely 100% a must while cutting.
