Thank God I have a slight fear of needles so I know I'll never touch drugs that you inject.

Recovering heroin addict here. Just under 2 years completely sober. Watched quite a few people OD recently too OP.
Unfortunately nothing you can do about it, addiction is a b*tch.

Complete joke imo. Both will give you worse withdrawals. Tried both. Then got back on the real stuff.
Went through viscous cycles until one day I just got mad at the drugs and wanted to stop. I went cold turkey and suffered a lot for the first 2 weeks. Then it took another 3 months to feel normal. Hardest thing I have ever done in my life but much better than being addicted to methadone or subs. **** all of that stuff. Best way to go is all or nothing. I chose 100% sober and its been almost 6 months now.Journal: https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=139898123&page=240

I was on buprenorphine for awhile when I got clean. It absolutely 100% helped me get my life back together. It allowed me to take my mind off opiates and focus on getting all the things in place which help me stay clean today such as work, school, lifting and a social life. For me I just don't believe I would have remained in my city and stayed sober for more than a few weeks until I relapsed without it.
It's not magic, but it absolutely was a useful crutch which I do give a lot of credit to during my recovery. I've been off it since February of 2013 and have been doing great ever since. Withdrawals were very easy to deal with after a slow and controlled taper.

This. Phuck subutex and methadone. Just withdrawal and it will be over. Taking subs or methadone is like drinking beer to get off of your whisky addiction. Same chit, different bottle. Works for some though.
That is great to hear, gjdm. Takes a strong person to kick a habit like that."For monkeys to speak of truth is hubris of the highest degree. Lost one of my best friends to the needle last January OP. I know that feel. Also know that feel of when you had plans to hangout with them later on that week...

There is absolutely no chance I would've been able to quit without Suboxone. I did a 7 day detox in a hospital and spent most of the time sleeping, it was great. I was supposed to follow that up with a 28 day rehab stint but I left after 2 days. I started using again a bit after that but my habit never got anywhere near as bad as it had been prior to that detox. I eventually started taking a small amount of Suboxone daily for several months just as sort of a safety net until I felt like I was completely sure I could stay clean.

It seems like the US has a completely different drug/addiction culture to the UK, it's almost like the doctors unnecessarily create the problem by throwing kids on these high strength prescription drugs for just about any ailment and yet have no support structure for bringing them back off of them.

Drug addicts are the most selfish and careless people I have ever known in my life.

ah gotcha. Agreed. I've tried MDMA and coke a few times but really regret it afterwards - I become obsessed wit them during the night and just want more, more and more. I think I get hooked on things pretty easily, be it drugs/gaming/lifting (srs I hate rest days now) etc
