I'm careful about what I order (DVD's online), because I first got burned with a DVD that was a BOC release from a 1976 concert. It sucked....only because the picture and sound quality was horrible.
BOC was a very important band in the 70's, as they filled a niche that's difficult to articulate. When I first moved to Atlanta in 72', I was lucky enough to see them soon after...FREE..at a local "beach" (read-lake) nearby my parent's home. They rocked the entire, rowdy, drugged up crowd. People were fcking on the shoreline...openly. It was 1973, and this wasn't abnormal at that time. Jimmy Page (Zep) once called BOC's lead guitarists as the "fastest I've ever seen". Sure, things change, and I could name many more that are faster. However, this is BOC....almost 40yrs later...and they still rock. Get past the "short haired, middle aged guys", because their ability to perform their 70's music is amazing. In fact, they recorded a "best of" CD years ago.....and they did it LIVE in a studio, instead of using compiled material....like EVERYONE ELSE!
It's unfortunate that their most ambitious, early days weren't captured on quality film, but it is largely the case.
If you like Blue Oyster Cult....take time to watch this whole clip:

Don't Fear the Reaper was always one of my favorites...a very much underrated and unappreciated band.
"Don't call me Miss Kitty. Just...don't."--Catnip. Check out the Catnip Trilogy on Amazon.com
"Chivalry isn't dead. It just wears a skirt."--Twisted, the YA gender bender deal of the century!

They weren't really underrated (you and I just proved the fact), they just didn't sell albums on the scale of other contemporaries. Funny, but they ended up having "BS" songs being their #1 radio hits, while the depth of the band was astounding! Again, watch the whole clip that I posted. It goes way beyond "Fear the Reaper" (which I love!)...and WAAAAAY beyond BS like Godzilla. If someone doesn't understand this...they simply never knew BOC.

Your brother has good taste! Seriously, it's the songs the mainstream never hear/heard on the radio that make this band so incredible. The players are TOP NOTCH! Their esoteric (MOST of what they actually played....and BEST material!) music never made it to radio. That's the way it was back then. Black Sabbath was the same way, along with dozens of other 70's hard rock bands. Only their BS fluff got airplay...and I suspect/know that they created that very fluff, just to satisfy their handlers. It was the way...back then .

History shows again and again how nature points out the folly of man.....

Seriously excellent clip brother, thanks for sharing that. It's great to see these guys still at it and still bringing it. The last few years have seen some excellent releases by such bands/artists still plugging away and offering some of their best material...Hot Tuna, Wishbone Ash, Uriah Heep, Nazareth, Foghat, Eric Burdon, Pat Travers, Bad Company, Paul Rodgers, etc. Outstanding stuff and so satisfying and comforting to see amidst a massive amount of utter garbage in the music industry.
Partial threadjack - Jack Bruce, Ginger Baker and John Mayall each recently released excellent LPs, Ginger's being a phenomenal jazz album and Jack's and John's delivering their customary greatness.
Again, great clips - thanks.

Yep. Not sure I'd classify them as edging on Prog Rock, but can see where one might think that, based on their often, different approach to R&R. Astronomy, and so many others, make you think of them as definitely outside the box of R&R. One thing is clear; they are all talented, and could/can burn a venue down.
