I sometimes wonder why some people even bother to join a gym,a guy that goes to my gym arrived for a workout he did bench press and incline bench press then he told me he was to tired and wanted to go home and have dinner.
I said to him you only just got here why not finish your workout,he said oh Im tired oh I dont want to get hurt.I asked him how old are you he said I am 28 I told I am 47 I have more energy than you.this guy only comes once a week.
I have heard other people whine and say workout out is to difficult,I cant lift more weight.
what excuses have you heard for people not wanting to workout when they get to the gym?

This isn't really an excuse from inside the gym but it pushes my buttons a bit. "I wish I had time to workout" That seems to insinuate if they had the life of leisure that I enjoy they could be in shape too. I mean, ****, can't cut down the 40 hrs a week in front of the TV they spend or anything like that.

I think being in a chinese gym is a little different than a western gym.I am the only western person in my gym and some people want to talk with me.then you get these guys that do one exercise then go outside for a smoke.or they use the toilet for smoking.

I got my own problems to deal with. I don't care about anyone else's when it comes to working out.

The only "excuses" that I really find annoying are when they somehow involve me. If people interrupt my workout to talk, that can be pretty annoying. What really ticks me off, though, is when someone interrupts my workout to cop an attitude over something. They're just looking for any kind of confrontation that will excuse them from having to do what they really don't want to do. I guess it's easier to run your mouth than to pick up a weight.
I have to be honest, if someone was whining to me and I wasn't their friend or getting paid to motivate them (as a trainer), I'd probably encourage them to follow their instincts and go home...

One of my lifting partners always seems to find an excuse to not show or leave the gym early. I try to motivate him to do more because he's a friend and I want to see him succeed (and not get injured in the process). A couple things to note about him are that he almost always makes it on chest day, but other days of the week seem pretty optional. He does very little work on his back. When he shows up on leg days he just squats (1/4 squats at that) and does the sled sometimes. He never does anything for his hamstrings. I preach to him about how the push and pull muscles both need to be worked in order to lessen the risk of injury. It falls on deaf ears. In any case, we still workout together but I'm in the gym an additional 30-40 minutes after he leaves completing my workout.

Maybe (just athought) you dominate a little too much. It doesn't fly with some people, some folks are far better off figuring things on their own. Or perhaps it is your judgement of his performance, being critical and such. Perhaps I am wrong and you see it differently, but this is my personal typical mistake being too judgemental and expecting a little too much of other people. Or perhaps working out side by side with you he is trying to hadle weights he isn't ready for.

No, I know that's not the case. I think he just likes to march to the beat of his own drum, in all honesty. He is about 10 years older than me and often uses that as an excuse as well. When we started lifting together over the winter he was a bit stronger than me. I've surpassed him in every lift. He's also about 75 lbs or more overweight. His biggest issue is in the kitchen and when he doesn't get to the gym, I feel like it just compounds everything. We've become really good friends and we even get our families together outside of the gym. My judging him isn't an issue, trust me. It's totally his work ethic and his unwillingness to do anything outside of his comfort zone that is the issue for him. I'm hoping he'll put it all together for himself, but I've been waiting on that for a while.

I'm like most others here. I am far too busy managing my own excuses to worry about anyone else. I piss and moan to myself every time I'm headed to the gym. Then, when I get there, I silently cuss the exercises. I accuse my trainer of trying to kill or maim me for life. I give him crap when he adds weight without me noticing because I'm slacking. Woe is me. Woe ! I give everything I've got, but I don't like it one bit.
Then, when it's all over, I thank him profusely, tell him I'll see him tomorrow, and then drive home telling myself that I am the flippin' man !
It's a vicious cycle but it works for me.
