Question Actual Leverages . What are yours

So being doing around looking at what makes a good sumo puller / convential vs a borntobench and his genetics blablabla makes him a perfect squatter and all that crap. Everyone keeps going on about arm lengths vs torso lengths vs quad lengths and all that. I wanted to have a little poll to see what lifters proportions actually are.
Basically just post the following measurements and tell us your lifts max, or if people generally say you are born to be a DL/BP/SQ ér
    Total Height
    Total Weight
Length From Floor too lower knee
Length and Girth of Upper legs
    Hips
    Waist
Torso length from hip crease to collar bone
    Arm length
    Forearm length

Ect. Maybe we can start seeing trends in proportions vs saying long arm + short torso = great conventional deadlifter.
What is concidered long arms ? Obviouslly a taller person will have longer arms. What are the lengths in proportion to torso since we say short torso.
    Athletics > Aesthetics
I guess its time to start training again.

Tendon insertion points affect leverages as much or more than limb length.

I figured I was born to bench when I measured my wingspan as -3 inches compared to height. And that was before I gained 75 pounds, lol.

This and I'm sure there's going to be push back from those that think to much. Sure, you may have slightly different form based on some ratio of bone lengths but it's not going to change much more than that. Still going to train really fuking hard to get stronger in any lift. You're not going to just go out an pull 800lbs because you were "built" to deadlift.

I know that I have short ass legs and squatting is easier than deadlifting is for me and that benching sucks anyway.

Usually no matter your leverages you'll be good(er) at one or two lifts and less good at one or two of the others.

All evens out in the end fairly well I think.

I seen a article before about muscle insertions on the upper pec, and depending on which you have your either a better bench presser or a better military presser. Jason blaha did a video about his CGBP and talked about collar bone structure effecting his bench press, and why he uses CGBP even for competition.

However, like the military says "be all you can be" who cares about what your leverages are get your squat/bench/deadlift as high as your body allows it.

Yeah I always pulled conventional myself (I just think it looks cooler) but I recently started pulling sumo just to round out the general strength. I imagine if I competed I might get a little more serious about this.

My wingspan is 3" longer than my height, and knees touch face when I bend. Not surprisingly, deadlift is half of my total. Everything is making progress it's just that deadlift goes up faster and with less effort than the other stuff.

This is the point. When i conventional deadlift the bar is just past my knees..... but because im not skinny like Hawthorne people say hes born to deadlift, and im not. OR they say i am born to deadlift, while my dl is terrible. Leverages matter, but not as much as people give credit for. Also most people have no clue how to evaluate it, they see someone with shortish arms because of their deadlift, but dont notice short forearms and regular length upper arms ect.

So, if you have the leverages for a good deadlift you shouldn't train it as hard? Or should you train it harder to maximize your potential.

If you have terrible leverages for the deadlift should you not train it as hard to focus on the squat? Or should you train it harder to try and not make it so crappy?

Or should it all not matter so much in the end because you should train it all pretty damn hard to get the biggest total you can? Or should you just make it a huge deal and become a one lift specialist....

Note: just using deadlift as an example. Can plug in any lift instead of deadlift.

Of course these things make a difference, but I've never found that it was particularly helpful to focus on something I have no control over. I can't control my leverages, so aside from having just enough self awareness to develop technique that maximizes these leverages, I don't obsess over it too much. This is the sort of thing that a lot of newbie lifters get extremely fixated on at the cost of their sanity.

Exactly and I believe it was you that mentioned that they improved their squat technique most by stop thinking so hard about all these "cues" that are out there and just started squatting.

So back to what Mr. Hamburger said...
