Wide hips, skinny and tall. What exercises should I do?

I'm pretty self conscious about my body type. I'd really like to put on some muscle, but my upper body is severely neglected. I ride a bicycle so I have some leg muscle. As you can see, I have wide hips and no musculature in my arms or torso.

What exercises would you guys recommend for me? I have access to a small gym, but it only has a few weight machines, no barbell, and a pretty good set of dumbbells up to 75lbs (I can only curl a 20lb one 10 times, as a reference for where my strength is at).

    Thoughts?

    Without sounding rude....everything.

You have a blank canvas mate! I'd personally do quite a lot of back work but there isn't much on you that wouldn't benefit from a little mass.

For any beginner, and this has been working for me, focus on compound exercises. Those are the ones that work multiple muscle groups with one lift. Squats, deadlift, bench press, overhead shoulder press, pullups, bent over rows. If you can do these at all, you will start to see some gains. (use this website's exercise database for info on these lifts.)

If you only have access to the items you listed, you have a few options:
    1. do the best you can with those things you have. Use those dumbbells! Squat with them. Deadlift them. Shoulder press them. Bench press them. Use them for rows.
Find a bar that is just out of reach, get a step and do some pull ups. You may only be able to do one or two to start. Don't let that stop you.

    2. invest some money into joining a real gym. For anywhere from $25 on up, you can join a gym that has real barbells, a great variety of dumbbells, cable machines, etc. You would also be able to see others doing their lifts and would be able to learn from them. Bur it you aren't dedicated to making yourself better, gym memberships can be a huge expense for little results.

    3. Do bodyweight exercises anywhere you can. Do pushups anywhere. Do pullups at the neighborhood playground. Do situps in your living room. All of these things can make big changes in the way you feel about yourself.
Lets not forget the real life side of things.
I spent too many years hiding in addiction to let that crap ruin my life again.
The greatest gift we can give others is the gift of help.

You need to work on everything like an above poster said. If you are worried about your hips, do some lat widening movements, like pull-ups, lat pulldown, really any wide grip pull. It'll all come together, just work hard. I have wide hips and working my lats helped a ton.
