not really related to PL, but to charities in general and why "so and so charity only donates this much, so they're bad" is basically a misnomer:
for ex: 20% of what Susan G Komen donates >>> 100% of a thousand smaller charity operations.
one way or another, a lot of people in need are getting helped out.
and in this case in particular, it's bringing a lot of positive attitudes together in a sport drowning with cynics, egos and negative nancies (even if some of those folks are the ones competing, at least they're suppressing it for a handful of hours).

Charity is always going to be like that. So many of the executives will be people earning $100,000s because they were an ex-banker or have massive influence.
But, it also makes sense. You could pay an average marketing executive $50k for a "meh" advert or get an amazing one for $200k and make him create something viral like the Ice Bucket challenge. The percentage that goes to really helping people may be lower with an expensive marketing executive, but it also means a lot more money to help people.
But it's certainly reasonable why people are shocked or annoyed at this. You have volunteers giving their time for free, and then you have executives making A LOT of money in the name of "charity".202.5/135/245. Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=165241801.

That was just silly.
No....they all go to the designated cause. There is no real organization. Just a group of people at a church that want to give back to the community. Over the years it has grown to something that raises lots of money. There still is very little operating cost for the meet itself as it is held in the church, the equipment is already owned by a local gym and the judges donate their time. There isn't prize money, Tommy doesn't take a cut for his time and the interaction with the kids/families that benefit is not a one time thing, it repeats all year.
This is not a United Way or Salvation Army that has a corporate structure raising millions of dollars that has numerous compensated full time employees. It is a rather small organization that runs on volunteer labor and donated facilities.
Website shows that currently 89% goes to the cause.Strongman Training Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=138026593

How would you guys go about changing your form on a lift, but the new/better form actually being weaker?
I find that with the bench press I'm a fair bit stronger when my shoulders come forward a little. I maintain some back tightness when I press, but my shoulders do come forward. I tried the other day to keep it all tight throughout and I just felt weaker. But, I do know that for longevity it's probably better to learn the right way, as well as potentially being stronger in the future from it.202.5/135/245. Big Rob that squatted 854 tore his bicep unfortunately. Tore it at the very start of the lift and finished the pull!

How did you do this year?
Yeah....that is why I am fairly selective with where I donate my money. I have no problem giving to causes like this, but have a huge issue with many charities that are poorly run Not For Profit Organizations that have the 25% (or less) going to the cause. With Relentless, it isn't just the money, but the interaction (and continued interaction) between the lifters and the kids/families.Strongman Training Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=138026593

After seeing a hard workout you may want to complain and want others to pity you for the work you have to do. Your mom will pity you. Your girl will pity you. I may pity you, but your competition will not pity you. They will step on you, walk over you and spit on you. Boris Sheiko

Wasn't that posted earlier this year? I felt like it was déjà vu when i read it.
If i had grown up training for powerlifting instead of for sports strength, i can see how i could have ended up pounding myself to the ground like those guys did and reminding myself to be smarter about it now.

Hey guys, so I had a terrible start to the meet, I was under the impression that I was supposed to get to the meet at 9, in reality I was supposed to squat at nine. That threw any plan at getting a good squat in right out the window. Nobody to blame but myself, but that's a mistake I won't make again.
Bench went well, my opener of 463 felt super easy, 484 also felt good, 501 felt heavy, nothing bad happened, I just wasn't strong enough to press it yesterday. I got a really solid negative in though.
Deadlifts were feeling good, and I should have tried for 590 or even 600 on my third, but I had a bet with Zack and I figured I needed 611 to lock in the win, plus 1701 would be nice. I am still just nowhere near strong enough to pull that. Maybe next meet.
If you note my avatar, you will understand the shame of losingIt'd be like staying fat while running marathons because it's more impressive to finish a marathon when you're overweight. It might be impressive in the short run, but in the long run it just doesn't make any sense. ~breathinglife
