it's been a year, and the first was my first meet so both of those allow a decent jump up, but yes i am very happy with the year's progress... except that my bench basically hasn't moved lol. but i can't complain too much with a 180 pound meet total PR with some still in the tank on squats.

Here is the thing....by going to a meet with top level guys, you see how they act, how they warmup, how they compose themselves in competition, how they eat, see their weights and wonder why you are not doing the same and can bullsh*t with them and pick their brain when not competing. The cost of flying and a hotel is relatively low when compared to the price of seminars, books, training and whatnot.
It has nothing to do with being hardcore, but has everything to do with getting better. Just a matter of how much you want to progress and how far you want to go I suppose.Strongman Training Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=138026593

After seeing a hard workout you may want to complain and want others to pity you for the work you have to do. Your mom will pity you. Your girl will pity you. I may pity you, but your competition will not pity you. They will step on you, walk over you and spit on you. Boris Sheiko

Them squats up above are embarrassing. I don't think I'd have been posting them on youtube if that's all the lower I was gonna go. That's a damn shame.

I don't think I've ever seen Brandon T hit depth. srs
Back on the competition topic though - I saw a 74kg guy beat my best total at 220 by 40lbs this weekend (with room to spare). Even at my strongest I wouldn't have cracked the Top 5 of the 83kg class. Wow, yeah those squats were pathetic. Jsullivan, just do the best you can do and don't worry so much about comparing yourself to others. Sure, a measuring stick can be helpful and motivate you to reach new heights, but it can be counterproductive at the same time if you let it. Just focus on yourself.
I'm struggling with this atm. I want to compare to certain people, but it has started to cause me to lose focus on my own personal goals. I'm trying very hard right now to just focus on my own goal and it's helping in training.1708 total @220 Raw

2 weeks ago I was at an RPS meet (my 3rd one as a handler/spectator) and it was BY FAR the WORST MEET I've ever been to. Venue was horrible, conditions were horrible (how the **** do you think it's okay to have a 8-10hr event in an unairconditioned crossfit gym and not even rent a few fans?) and the judging was by far the worst judging I've ever seen.
Squats not fully locked, guys jumping commands, spotters who don't have any clue what they're doing, loaders who can't even read the damn projector screen and load correctly, and the worst judging I've ever seen. Neither side judge had ANY clue what they were doing. They were letting guys touch-n-go on bench, asses up in the air, not locking elbows, not making any attempt to control the weight before lifting, not locking out deadlifts, honestly it was the single worst example of what powerlifting is that I've ever seen. There was 1 team there that was given BLATANT favoritism and several of their lifters failed to lock out benches and pulls and were given whites anyway. It was just plain disgusting after a while.
FYI, this meet I'm referring to is the same meet that Oak from JTS just competed in.
It was so bad that when I was sitting in the crowd w my lifter's family in between flights I said to his dad "I'm embarrassed to call myself a powerlifter and be associated with people like this, this right here is exactly why the rest of the sporting world doesn't respect powerlifting"
I cannot, in any good conscience, recommend RPS meets to ANYONE. This is the 3rd one that I've been to and each one has been progressively worse.BlueCollarBarbell.com - Long Island Powerlifting - CAN'T FAKE STRENGTH!

Modern. It's defined as knee wraps or knee sleeves, which is kind of dumb but I'm not going to squat without some type of compression. Knee wraps are for silly nannies tho.
I understand this, and I am focusing on myself. I'm incredibly happy with how my training is going and I'm hitting weight PRs and volume PRs most every week. My log has gotten redundant lately lol. I do plan to go 9/9 at my meet, regardless of final weights.
However, I am also kind of an a-hole who really wants to be a contender in 2-5 years, and I really get fired up from the prospect of competition.
This is disconcerting. I wonder If I should just go to the elitefts seminar in August, get my money back from RPS, and do a USPA meet in

lol actually yes. It helps more than you'd think. BOOM
LMAO never thought of it that way but yes, I think you're onto something here!
WOW never seen RPS calls that bad
I lost RUM 3 middleweights to Jeremy Hamilton, Arnold Coleman, and David Ricks. It was awesome lol
Yeah agree.. like I said above haven't seen this much from RPS. Even Talmant says if you're trying to qualify for RUM he recommends an RPS meet.1810@198 raw

I totally get this. I think my statement is being misunderstood. I have finished last in both of the meets Ive done so far and come out of both of them with nothing but positive feelings and motivation to get better. Even qualifying would be a huge accomplishment. The only point I was making is that is kind of in the middle of nowhere and not a particularly cool place to be, especially given cost, the amount of time I actually have to travel, etc. Kinda hard to say hey sweetie want to spend over a grand to got to bum fuk Pennsylvania for our vacation as opposed to somewhere like Atlanta that I could drive to. lettuce b cereal, cost is a big factor, especially when married.
