Isn't it funny (well not really) how there always seems to be a token gay character on so many television shows. But yet, there are never any Hispanic or Asian characters - who make up a much much larger percentage of the population.

It is not exactly news. Most population statistics studies that have any scientific credibility have placed the LGBT population in the United States as something around 3-3.5%. The article points this out, and the stat of 96.7% straight and 3.3% Gay, Bi, or other (trans, etc) agrees with previous work done on the subject. There are approximately 10 million LGBT people in the United States, its been that way for quite a while now (growing as the population grows, but remaining the same percentage of the population.)

Define "inflate".

If by this you think that we've somehow become more "important" than the rest of society at large, I think you're mistaken. If you mean that we've increased our importance to be on par with the rest of society at large, then you're still mistaken. That is our goal but we aren't there yet.

whats even more interesting is that if you watch commercials almost without fail every commercial has a dumb white male in it. Totally inept.

Right now there is a Progressive commercial on that started out with Flo talking to a female, kind of a 'who's on first' slant to the commercial and at the end, the woman ended up looking dumb.

That only ran a couple weeks. The exact same commercial then popped up with a white male, overweight, with a lisp, mouthbreathing to make him look as stupid as possible.

Men who have sex with men - both heterosexual men who have sex with men and homosexual men (which CDC counts as 4% of the Male population. Therefore there are men who identify as straight who are part of the MSM number) - account for 52% of all HIV/AIDS cases currently diagnosed in the United States. That number of current cases in the entire US population is 1,155,000. That would mean that the MSM population accounts for approximately 550,000 cases of HIV/AIDS in the United States. Since the LGBT population is 3.4% of the population, or approximately `10 million people, that would mean (taking into account the straight MSM population as an estimate) that something around 5% of the LGBT population in the US is HIV positive.

The fastest growing infection rates occur in males, especially black males because of their lower percentage in the population, who have sex with males aged 13-24 - ie the age bracket that does not take proper precautions in having unprotected sex. Of new infections, approximately 55% are homosexual and heterosexual MSM, 20% are heterosexual females who contract from their male partner, approx 20% from IV drug users using infected needles, etc.

As much as the hater asshats here go to their expected extremes to "prove" we are all evil, we have to be honest with ourselves and our population. HIV infections are growing again, almost all of which are derived from MSM teens having unprotected sex. We have not done a good enough job teaching about proper protection (and if we have, they have ignored it). And the posters above will go to every length to stop us if we try. That is to be expected from them. But, the teens do not remember wasting disease and all the death in the 80's. Most of them see HIV as nothing much more than diabetes - just take PrEP or the cocktail - and you live a normal life. Its not true. We both know it. If we want this rise in rates to change, it is up to us to change it. The "christians" certainly are going to revel in the infection rates and deaths.

That said, I have little sympathy for those kids who get infected by bareback stupidity, especially the ones who know better.

Character development is generally so chity anymore, they could substitute just about any demographic for another, and it wouldn't even matter.

Aside from that, I really wish they would just stop casting entertainment roles based on demographics.
