This picture is from 29 AUG when Kai was at the 2014 IFBB North American and visited "NPC Photo Gym, a/k/a Manion’s Gym." So that makes the picture off him 4 weeks out from the show. So its impossible to tell anything from it on how he will look on game day.

Ronnie called that perfectly! Jay's regression starting in 2011, nobody could really notice it except for Ronnie because he went through it and knew exactly what to look for, in terms of the small but definite signs of regression et. Ronnie knew Jay was going to come in looking like a shell of his former self due to the age and personal experience of regression. Ronnie's last show he was also gifted a top 6 spot and Jay ended up in the exact same position at 40.
I think Ronnie is bang on in regards to most top bodybuilders starting to regress at 40, with the exception of guys like Dex, who is a total anomaly. Kai just turned 39 in July. I think this is really going to be it for him. This show, is likely his last shot. He will be 40 next Olympia (2015) and will likely start showing some signs of regression just as Ronnie and Jay did. Even though Ronnie did win the Sandow in his early 40's he was in the twilight of his career and regressing, despite the wins. Phil is just entering his prime and still has a good 5 years before he hits 40 so any regression in Kai's physique will just put Phil and the Sandow totally out of reach.
This is the year for Kai, if he is ever going to win an O, it will be this year at age 39 imho. I can't see him beating Phil at 40 or 41 et., when Phil will be 35 or 36 and fully in his prime.THE LEVRONE 2016 MR. OLYMPIA COMEBACK

His waist was thicker because he wasn't as shredded as he was in 2012. Absolutely no reason to think that he wouldn't be able to emulate 2012 as he is now.
Disagree. Until he shows signs of regression, its nothing but speculation. Jay was showing signs of specific regression before 2011. And so did Ronnie before 2006. Kai isn't showing anything, he is been staying in his prime when it comes to muscle development and the only problem he had last year was his condition which resulted from a different approach taken to the contest prep.

And I have no freaking clue how Ronnie was the first to call Jay's regression. This is a joke. Jay's back lost so much size since 2006 lol. everyone on this forum but Mesopeaks was aware how much size he was losing and after the injury it was clear that he was done. only a few people thought he would look like his old self.
Do we see regression with Dexter? not really, so we are not writing him off. We are not writin Shawn Rhoden or Kai off either.
Past year, Toney has been regressing and it it pretty obvious or we know branch is not going to improve so we are writing them off. it is actually pretty easy and people who have a good eye for these things in this section has been consistently right about most of the assumptions.

However, there were cases when many were wrong. Lee Priest or Zack Khan did step on stage looking awesome and Jay looked very good in 2009Grainy hardcore religious slabs of thick dense muscle. So grainy that it hurts your eyes

He was great in 2005, he improved his condition, his waist tightened up, excellent. Better then 04. But in those couple of years you could see hints of what we now known ended up being the downfall. Aggravating lat asymmetry, left quad with higher insertion lacking a bit of detail.
Kai has nothing of the sort, his muscles are as full as they have ever been. The blocky waist is related to the approach they took last year...he was bloated. Different approach = byebye gut, like he did when he started working with Farah.
All i am saying is that there is no reason to associate the random age of 40 to total breakdown, and until he shows regression, its pointless to speculate about it.

I didn't say this was his last year competing, I said it is quite possibly his last realistic shot at a Sandow IMHO because he is not likely going to beat a prime Phil Heath who will be 35, 36, 37, while Kai will be 40, 41, 42. Call me delusional or call it bro science but the body does not perform the same once you get into your 40's for the majority of people, especially when you have been pushing crazy amounts of weight and taking copious amounts supplements for 20+ years.
For those who think Kai is going to win an O at 42 or 43, all I am saying is that I don't think it's realistic. Will he be on the O stage? Quite possibly, he could likely still place well barring any serious types of injuries but winning an O in his 40's when you got guys like Phil who will still be in his prime and Ramy who will likely just be starting to hit his stride, I just don't see it and I am a Kai fan. I just think now is his best opportunity. I could be wrong. Time will tell.Last edited by Canuck77; 09-07-2014 at 04:38 PM.

even though Kai has shown literally no signs of regression and Phil has made no real improvements since 2011? Phil has maxed out his frame and any more added size will ruin his proportions and make him look blocky, so the only real improvements he can make are in regards to conditioning, which he has already found the perfect recipe for. so he can only stagnate or regress. as for Kai, he will not come in mangled and atrophied just because he hits the age 40. age is just a number. Kai is in his prime as well as Phil imo.

Vic has lost so much of that fullness and pop to his muscles. Age and all the issues he had catching up to him.
