Becoming Mr. Olympia is no easy feat. It takes hard work, dedication, tough mentality, a serious workout plan, a solid nutrition plan and the appropriate supplements. If anyone knows anything about becoming Mr. Olympia, it’s Phil Heath. The current three-time Mr. Olympia will compete for his fourth straight title at the 50th anniversary of the Mr. Olympia competition this September. Ahead of the competition, though, Heath today announced the launch of a new line of sports nutrition supplements, Gifted Nutrition.

Heath’s partnership with Gifted Nutrition, through which he’ll be named the company’s president, was driven by a growing concern that Heath and other professional athletes have in being ensured that the supplements they are putting in their bodies are clean. ”Whatever I put into my body, I want it to be the best. Gifted Nutrition was able to show me that they had FDA compliant ingredients in their supplements. I thought that was really huge, especially when you are trying to show people that you are a natural athlete,” Heath said.

Expanding beyond Gifted Nutrition’s commitment to only use FDA compliant ingredients in its supplements, what also drew Heath to parter with the company was its founders’ and developers’ backgrounds. For instance, the nutritionist that Gifted Nutrition worked with to develop the line, Richard Bartolacci, has 34-years of experience in the nutrition supplement industry. ”When you are promoting a product, you don’t want to have any hiccups or problems. Richard has over 34-years of experience in nutrition and a really good track record with no blemishes on it. It was really cool when I saw that at Gifted Nutrition I was surrounded by people with a great track record, believe in premium products and want to have first class athletes,” Heath noted.

For Heath, finding a nutrition supplement company to partner with that provides FDA compliant products and has no industry blemishes was critical given the groups of people he seeks to inspire and motivate. A former Division I basketball player at the University of Denver, Heath began his bodybuilding career weighing 185-pounds. Over time, he has turned his body into a 255-pound machine that contains only 3-percent body fat. Heath hopes to utilize his experience and results from Gifted Nutrition to motivate other former student-athletes to consider bodybuilding as an outlet for their athleticism. Furthermore, he is also excited to partner with Gifted Nutrition, because he feels confident that he can recommend its products to professional athlete friends, as all of the brand’s ingredients are FDA compliant. ”For me, I’ve always tried to be a stand-up individual. Even as a student-athlete, I wanted to know what I was putting in my body and now it’s no different. Through my experience being a professional bodybuilder, I’ve been able to listen to other athletes around the world in different sports and at different levels. I realized that we are all eager to get something high quality that we can trust,” Heath said.

So then, what along with a supplement plan does it take to become the three-time reigning Mr. Olympia? Heath notes that he wakes up early every morning. Six days a week he does resistance training and cardio. He then eats protein and carbohydrate rich meals every two to two-and-a-half hours. Along with supplements, Heath also relies upon deep tissue massages, acupuncture treatments, laser treatments, infrared treatments and sauna visits to keep his body healthy. ”I recognize that sports nutrition is a must at this level. Everyone needs an edge at this level. Everyone is going to want to take down the Mr. Olympia champ. I partnered with Gifted Nutrition to beat all of these guys,” Heath explained.

It isn’t everyday that a professional athlete becomes the president of a company. With this new experience ahead of him, Heath discussed what qualities are important to him in business and how he hopes to build his personal brand. ”My brand aims to be an elite health, wellness and fitness brand. I want people to realize bodybuilders are athletes. We have a very meticulous philosophy on how we are able to gain muscle and lose fat simultaneously. My belief in the gifted lifestyle is being able to take what you’re good at and cultivate it into being something special. Gifted Nutrition is a big step for my brand. Not a lot of guys are president of a company at the same time that they’re competing at this level. Being such allows me to use my education. I graduated with a business and IT degree. People look at bodybuilders and see meatheads. I want kids to look at me, see that I went to college, got my degree and am the president of a company. Maybe that’ll inspire them to do the same–and become a bodybuilder,” Heath said.

It is definitely higher risk for him, but with a HUGE upside if it takes off, which it really should, as he is the reigning Mr. Olympia and will probably be for the next few years.

Inb4 scientific studies which show 98% of their products are worthless (Examine etc). But I doubt Mr stand-up and trust, will be educating his following to that extent when money to be made.

Sounds reasonable to sponsor an event he competes in if he is not a main sponsor. I wonder who the investors are behind Gifted nutrican, I hope no Olympia judges are secretly major share holders.

It's really sad that such a huge part of the fitness/bodybuilding industry is devoted to spending massive amount of dollars in fake advertising campaigns to get the gullible to believe any of these worthless supplements are essential to being healthy and having a good physique.

I know people need to make a living, but does a person like Phil have any ethical concerns when going forward with something like this? He can already support himself without having to rip off naive people.
