Take care of it. My old man got some in May that he had to take a week off work and go on steroids for. Chit was nasty.

Anyone taken the ALERRT active shooter training? Im supposed to be taking it this fall, seems more hands on than other training Ive been through.

Yeah our agency has done it. If you've gone through previous active shooter training, it'll be different. They're trying to create a standard so if an active shooter situation occurs and 4 guys all from different agencies show up, they'll be able to effectively communicate and clear the threat.

Fuuuuuuk!
Respect for you guys on the street as I don't have to deal with seeing that, just reading about it. I can see the most disgusting chit around here but it will never hit me in the feels the way seeing an innocent child in a scenario like that.

Just completed my first week of in service training last week and first day of FTO on Saturday. Its busy down here in South Florida, thats for sure. We had a domestic, supposedly some shots fired, a dead body, and a K-9 chase and bite a suspect all in one day. This is day shift too. Anyone else get used to the smell of bodies? I've been around them before at the medical examiners office and elsewhere, but I don't think I'll get over the smell of someone who's been dead for the last few days.

Never been to that one but any chance for force on force/sims training should be utilized to the fullest. Next best thing to actual experience assuming its a good scenario/your mind is right.
I highly recommend only wearing the vest you normally wear and a t-shirt and a face mask. Lots of people wear heavy clothing, gloves, etc. and it kinds of changes things because they aren't worried about getting hit.
You get hit by a sims round and it breaks skin and you bleed and you'll learn how to utilize cover to the fullest/shoot on the move during an engagement.
I haven't been through the course mentioned but I've gotten the opportunity to train (using SIMS) in a school 3 times. (2 were summer time 1 was a night time) Was pretty freaking cool. Luckily we were fortunate enough to go to an active school so the AC was working, desks all in place, etc.
Made me realize 3 important things:
1. I want a rifle & plate carrier if possible. Lots of 50-100 yard shots and chitty cover if your on the move.
2. Cardio is never good enough. You hear shots across a freaking high school and have to sprint across the whole thing wearing a 20-25lb duty rig, and whatever else you have on and it freaking sucks.
3. Its a good idea to have an idea of the school layouts in the area you work. Whether its just studying a map or training there/doing a walk through. Someone starts giving location info on the radio and its a good idea to know where it is.
