Even Nasser is beating him here. Kevin is schooling both of them. It's funny Flex had great back thickness and zero width, Kevin had great width but zero thickness, put them together and you have Ronnie Coleman.

already been done, keep in mind this is in 2008 when Phil wasn't even close to his best, and a lot of people already had Phil beating Flex.
His RLS wasn't his best pose, but it's pretty similar to Phil's (from the waist up), they have similar features, only one is more conditioned than the other.

So your criteria is being an oil bag?

I am going to tell you he did not almost beat him in 98.

The thread specifies "In their prime." Oily time was not Flex's prime. As for him not having a back, he does but it makes Phil's look super wide by comparison.

Structurally they're both narrow, it's just Phil manages to make it a decent pose by having a decent lower body, not to mention his back is more conditioned. He also knows how to hide his lack of width a lot better.

Looks pretty good imo, as opposed to Flex

Of course Phil's is better, I'm just saying that the RLS comparison is not different from the BDB comparison, they both have a similar amount of detail, structure and shape, the only thing that really differentiates them is conditioning.

Width isn't a problem for Phil nor Flex, when standing alone, in the RLS

I feel like Phil would take the RLS, but BDB to me goes to Flex. And while most might consider flex at his best around 93, I think he managed to look slightly less balanced, but way bigger in 98 and 99.

Looking at those pics though, Phil is killing him in the leg development...from the back. I still feel like Flex's back was better in the back poses.

But whatever. Phil surpassed Flex a long time ago.

The number of Sandows aren't that important here because Flex competed against Dorian and Ronnie, and Phil didn't. Dorian or Ronnie today Phil would win today, with Phil taking second place, just like Flex did during his time. The number of Sandows are also dictated by the level of competitors because Dorian or Ronnie>Kai, Wolf, Rhoden or Dex.

That being said, prime Phil beats prime Flex while rookie Flex (1993) beats rookie Phil (2006).

What is wrong with everyone. Flex takes it easily in my mind. He just has WAY BETTER balance and flow. His arms don't overpower his body.

And Flex having no back...are you serious now? Flex at his best wins again the best version of Phil (2011).
Phil, 100%, no discussion. Anyone who thinks otherwise has no clue what judges want. Flex has a narrow back and soft hams and glutes. Phil easily beats Kai and Kai would easily beat Flex. One physique beats Phil and that's Coleman from a handful of contests, arguably Jay from 2-3 contests as well. The thread isn't about who noobs THINK looks better, but who would judges score as the winner...

Phil hands down. Early 90s flex looked great but would get edged out in all around thickness/size. Later flex would get beat too. Few shows he should have been disqualified. He had a lot of nerve bitching about losing to Ronnie in 98 99 with those oiled ass awkward arms he sported. Seriously the most overrated bodybuilder ever. Shawn ray Cormier and Kevin all had better physiques than him.

just saying it doesn't really matter. Even if his conditioning is somewhat close, he gets mauled in overall size.

He didn't almost beat Ronnie though. To go from 9th place to beating the odds on favorite and winning the Olympia title the following year means you absolutely dominated the guy in 2nd place.

1993 Flex loses to Phil due to being too small and slightly less conditioned.

1998/1999 Flex loses to Phil due to being too oiled up and severely out conditioned.

    Either way Phil wins imo.

not sure they would matter too much. Between 93-98 his condition was fairly average with few exceptions and while he was bigger than 93, it wasn't close to enough.
