I have been searching for way of reducing wrist, elbow and bicep strain for sometime in my lifting. I play with different bars and different grip positions. I have found many ways that work for me.....but I am still tempted to do things that over time, irritate my joints, because they are just so damn effective.
A great example is close grip bench. It works wonders for my tris but kills my wrists. No matter how tightly I wrap my wrists, they still ache. This got me wanting to order a 'football bar' which is a oly bar with several grip positions. I then figured I would try an easier, lower cost solution. Globe Gripz.
http://www.globegripz.com/
They are sold here on bb.com. (the manufacturer is sell cheaper with free shipping though) $40 seems kind of expensive for two plastic balls. But it beats a $400 barbel and I think these might be more versatile.
I'll share my views on them when I get them.....People really seem to like them. I cant wait to re-introduce exercises that I cut out due to tendon and overuse injuries. (straight bar curls as an example).

These allow you to vary your grip in so many ways, and also spread the pressure over a larger area of the palm. I am sure there are many many uses, but I look forward to trying close grip BP with a parallel grip like this
Also the variation allowed when doing all sorts of straight bar movements.....straight bar curls especially.
I struggle with forearm and bicep issues. Once I irritate them, it takes months to get better. I therefore avoid a lot of movements that I otherwise would like to do. I think these will help.....but I wont know till I try.RAW lifts

Jedd Johnson (pro grip guy, also runs Diesel Crew with Jim Smith) recommends them and claims it really helps with the aches & pains associated with uncomfortable gripping. I'd love to see what you think, I may have to add this to my wish list.

I am excited to get these..... I will give unbiased feedback. I have been working around A LOT of wrist/forearm/elbow issues. I have taken breaks, altered, even dropped certain exercises completely trying to resolve my issue. It is always just one bad workout or slip-up from coming back. I am very careful not to aggravate it as getting rid of it takes a long time.
In doing everything from barbell exercises to cables, it always seems like I struggle to find that perfect hand position that is pain free. I am hoping these will be helpful in achieving that.
I am however reserving judgement until I get them.... I will surly update and let you guys know.RAW lifts

I never followed up on this. I will say that their use is limited for me. I found them limited in their usefulness. Using them for small iso movements was fine, but the weight was not stable enough for me on larger compounds. (the foundation of most that I do)
I found that trying to 'split' my grip and rotate my hands as in this pic:
This was just too uncomfortable for me with any significant weight. The pain/strain on the web of my fingers became VERY uncomfortable with anything 225 and up. (to the point I would not even do it). 135 was ok...but that is not very useful to me.
In the end, I am sure I will use them....but in a very limited fashion. I have however been using a swiss bar (football bar) lately for all kinds of movements. THAT has really solved the issues I had and I will be getting one for my home gym as well.
If I could recommend anything.....a good swiss bar is worth it's weight in gold! I am giving up flat bench (conventional grip) for the next few months and only going to do parallel grip pressing movements. I just want to give my shoulders and forearms a break for a while. When I am healed up, I might make a run at heavy pressing again, and maybe even try for a new bench PR if I am feeling up to it!RAW lifts

I think these are actually useful...but forearms are not really a weak point on me.

ID--are you going to just do your normal barbells lifts with a swiss bar then? Flat bench, incline bench, OHP? What other lifts is a swiss bar good for? (thinking of buying one for my home gym since I realized recently I had not purchased anything new for my home gym in a while other than more plates). Thanks...
