Taking pride in something that you didn't earn makes no sense to me I guess. I didn't earn my "whiteness". I didn't earn my height. Similarly I didn't earn my male pattern baldness, so I don't feel bad about that since it's no reflection on me as a person. The notion of pride refers to the ability to be who you are without being discriminated against, hated, beat up, murdered etc. Gays used to have to hide who they are. Now they don't as much. That's the only meaning behind Gay pride. It rarely has anything to do with being proud of being born gay.

Of course, plenty of people take pride in being American, so by your logic patriotism is bad.
