Yesterday I thought about this thread when I saw the umpteenth dude with spectacular jaw dropping upper body and stupid ass, teeny weeny toothpick legs. Why? WHY????

Oh, my God. We must go to the same gym
What makes it worse is that I'll be on the upper floor doing cardio (overlooks weight floor) and it's become my entertainment to see "Well, how many guys are we going to see doing half squats today?!"
Another thing that bothers me...and this probably sounds really bad because we all start somewhere...but ladies that SLDL like, the 20lb barbell week after week. I just want to be like "your groceries weigh more than that. you really can lift more and not look like a she-male."
That and - people married to the smith machine.
That being said...I realize we all have different goals so if theirs doesn't align with mine that's perfectly fine with me. I guess I find it more sad if they DID have the same goals and are just being misled...

I have such a girl in my gym. I feel very sorry for her, my body hurts a little bit when seeing her. She seems to train early in the mornings on a cardio machine. When I see her, I would like to stare at her for a minute or two; but I don't because every time I let my eyes wander around the gym during pauses, she often looks back at me with wide open, attentive eyes (btw. she has a very pretty face, you can tell this despite the bones sticking out of it), and I don't want to make her feel uncomfortable. As soon as I look away my brain tells me, that it can't be as bad as I just witnessed it.
Her legs are incredible, incredible thin... her whole body is only skin and bones; I've never seen someone like this close to me. And so as soon as I look away, I can't believe what I just saw, thus my brain / my eyes would like to go back and check it another time and another time and another time... I can't wrap my head around it how thin-thin a person can look and still function somewhow. Plus I don't know where she takes the energy from to move on the machine for such a long time.
The human body is incredible.Last edited by MeFromG; 07-13-2014 at 02:57 AM.

iPad? Wth? I do this with my iPod or iPhone though when my leggings don't have a pocket, or tuck it in at the side of my hip if I'm doing any exercise that requires both hands free and I can't rest it on the floor or on the machine (rowing, assisted pull-ups etc.). Can't put it in the front, it's gonna slide down. Slides perfectly against my sacrum and leggings hold it in place so it doesn't bother me while I'm working out. Only con is that my phone can get really sweaty sometimes... Don't want that water damage.

I like wearing gloves - always have (also I almost never walk without shoes in daily life ). Plus I don't like pain or maltreated hands when it can be avoided (e.g. my left-hand fingertips are desensitized enough from guitar playing, that's enough). Without gloves I even feel like missing some of my bad-ass training attitude . Wearing gloves -> better training.

- what do you mean by "crappy"? Not gym appropriate, safety hazards (lack of grip on the soles etc) or not aesthetic/poverty? I hnggggg over Nikes but I couldn't care less if people wear poverty/ugly/old trainers cause they might not be able to afford better or they probably couldn't give a chit because you don't need to look good to workout. Safety hazards annoy me though. Have seen too many girls wearing smooth soles or shoes that look like they don't fit properly and have no support (ballet pumps, srs). The amount of spilled water and sweat on gym floors.... Gurrrrlll, you gon' slip and die.
- probably guilty of this but I can't help it, I do HITS and really focus on my breathing so it can get loud at times. I always listen to music so other people's noise doesn't bother me.
- lol lost it, I have never seen this but would probably die laughing if I did IRL

Trainers as vernacular for shoes depends on your country or region of origin, I think. Americans typically don't use it to mean that.
I DO kinda judge people on shoes. There was this lady who would always wear those Sketchers "Fit" shoes with the round bottoms that were supposed to burn more calories or something (there was later a lawsuit). I totally judged her. It seemed so pathetic and stupid to believe in such a thing."The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously."

Well this is the thing..I'm not American, and when I moved here I had hard time trying to figure what to call them. Some say tennis shoes, but I have noticed that Americans a lot of times use brand names to describe things. So my shoes are called "Chucks" or somebody may have "Nike's".
But maybe somebody who's not a foreigner can explain better.

my 'you are not serious' trait peeves are:
- girls who come in in pairs and chat whilst walking very slowly on the treadmill
- people who read books whilst on the stationary bike
- anyone who spends more time chatting than working out
- using your phone in the gym
- groups of teenage guys who come in in 4 or 5's and crowd round one or two pieces of equipment while one exercises and the others chat
- women who don't wear a sports bra - why?!?!?

Not serious if:
Women in full makeup (anyone really working out isn't going to notice you, and if you were really working out that makeup would be running down your face)
you use the bench as a seat when you have no plans on using it (get the hell off my bench)
anyone who benches less than me and tries to correct my form (You bench 135, you just worry about you)
Curling in the squat cage (thanks for being in my way, tons of room to curl on the floor)https://youtu.be/RGHV67vZ0MM 435lb Bench SS 7/8/17

I use my phone... I have a workout tracking app. It's great!
Agree with the no sports bra, definitely. And I see men that would benefit from one...
Earlier someone mentioned wearing gloves. I wear mine every upper body day. They are crystal covered, if I could wear them outside the gym I would!Bench press: current 65kg, goal 70kg
Squat: current 75kg, goal 90kg
Deadlift: current 100kg, goal 120kg

I use my phone too. Usually just when I'm alone though and I'm resting between sets. If I ever have to answer the phone while at the gym I walk over to the area where jackets/keys/gym bags are stored.
I def do a lot of things mentioned ITT. My gym is rarely ever packed so it's not bothering anyone when I do them. If I workout when it's busy I am on my best gym etiquette behavior lol
I sit on the lat Pulldown seat, or an empty bench while resting
I read while on the treadmill
I wear gloves or Versa Grips on all upper body days
I wear make up 99% of the time, as I'm usually going after work. Although most people wouldn't be able to tell I wear such a small amount
I workout with my guy 3-4x per week
What makes someone not serious IMO, is the ones who never change year to year and are always doing the same exact things every workout. I want to shake them and say "what you're doing is not working!" I wonder if they ever get discouraged or they're ok with the way they look? But why go through all the trouble of going to the gym, lifting weights, doing cardio and not strive to improve physically? Obviously not everyone wants to look like a bodybuilder but improvements can be in the form of lifts going up, running a farther distance, jumping rope for 10 minutes straight, etc. I guess I don't understand practicing something almost every day and not improving on it.
This one kinda goes with the above but the people who just do the machines or accessory work with the lightest weights and 100 reps. These have their place but not for the whole darn workout lol.
They all look so bored on those machines too, like at any second they're going to fall asleep.
Quarter or half reps. I'm pretty sure most don't even realize they're not doing the full reps

totally agree with the always doing the same thing, but I guess for some ppl the goal is 'not to gain any weight' etc so as long as they stay the same they don't care.
and need to add: getting out 4 sets of dumbbells and not using them all, but then when you ask if you can use them, they say "no i'm using these" grrr....
oh and with the phone comment I meant more standing there texting/********ing, using an app or the timer function I get
