    Pre-Cardio Fuel

    What's up everyone,

A little background on me: I f***ing hate cardio... Always have, always will. I just learned a few weeks ago though that I got accepted into Navy OCS, and will be starting training in the fall. This has forced me to start some distance running (unfortunately).

I wake up around 6, and am running by 7:05. Usually I'll have whey and some sort of fruit to help fuel my run and then have my regular breakfast when I get back. Do you think that's a solid plan? The quick bit of energy from the whey and the fruit to fuel my run?

And then on top of that I've been running 5/3/1 for about a year now, which I lift at night 4x a week.

Just wanted some input and advice on early morning pre-run nutrition

    Thanks,

    Steve

If fruit works for you, that is great. Personally, I have found that the high water and fiber content in most fruit causes me stomach issues and cramping during my runs (excluding bananas for some reason). My go-to pre-run snack has been a few graham cracker squares with 1-2 tbsp of peanut butter - it seems to have enough quick-digesting carbs to provide an energy boost while the peanut butter gives it a little more gravity. Best of luck!

Hmm I'll keep that in mind.. So far I haven't had any issues with fruit. Usually it's either an apple, pear, or a banana. Thanks for the response!

Running fasted does the trick for me, personally. A cup of coffee an hour before gives me the energy needed without the feeling of food slogging around in my stomach.

I would just play around and see what you personally feel better doing.
Try fasted for 2 days, coffee, high carb, high fat, high protein etc.
