That's not true. Right now USA's 4-3 on goal differential and Ghana's 3-4 so if USA loses by 1 and Ghana win by 1 it would come down to goals scored.

If USA lost the game vs Germany 1-2 and Ghana beat Portugal 1-0 then USA would be 5-5 overall and Ghana would be 4-4. In that scenerio, even though each team's GD is even, the USA would go through because they have more goals scored. If the USA lost the game vs Germany 0-1 and Ghana beat Portugal 1-0 then USA would be 4-4 overall and Ghana would be 4-4. Since, in that scenerio, GD and goals scored are equal, the tie-braker would come down to head-to-head (who won the game between the respective teams), so the US would move on. Apply the same mentality to a USA-Portugal draw scenerio.
