From what I recall he had near misses, year after year after year. And I think that picture is real. His muscle shape, insertions, genetics were great and he was strong as hell.

tbh, going through google the only weakness I can spot on Mandenhall is a blocky waist and a slightly overpowering torso. Overall, a very great physique.

He had great shape, but had the bad luck of coming up against the greats of the 80s. He lost to the likes of Lee Haney, Bob Paris, Mike Christian, and Berry Demey. He was one of the top mention amateur's that were under-rated and just because so many greats were around that time he didnt turn pro
