    Question for Trainers Regarding Recovery

I broke my right leg (tibia and fibula) and I got a rod put in it. Its been about 5 1/2 months since the surgery. I still haven't been cleared to run yet, but today I jogged for about 10 yards. The leg felt really weird so I'm wondering why and if it will go away? Could it be because I haven't got the muscle back in the leg yet?
Just put on a weight vest and sprint up hills. You'll get stronger quads, caves, AND A WHOLE HELL OF A LOT FASTER!

Could be a number of possibilities but any trainer worth their gym shoes wouldn't have you load that leg at all until your doctor clears you. With that said there's still a great deal you can do. Anything seated (other than legs) would be fine. A solid walking regime would be the best thing and some body squats within reason if you wanted to "rehab" the leg..again if your doctor cleared this type of activity.

Probably not. I've been through a tib-fib fracture before, repaired surgically like yours; I couldn't run at all afterward due to being bedridden. I actually wound up having the rod taken out later because it was causing persistent pain.

If your injury was like mine, you spent about two months not walking normally. If you got lucky, you saw a physical therapist who taught you how to do rudimentary knee flexion and extension exercises. Then all of a sudden they told you that you could weight the leg again, and now you're walking funny because your leg and hip muscles atrophied and shortened. You are going to need a long period of focused recovery, ideally under the supervision of a professional.
