Being real here, if Harbaugh leaves its probably 99% chance Fangio goes too. So what is going to become of our defense? Anybody think formation will change with Borland emergence? If Cowboy retires, what will D Line look like? If Williams and Dorsey are healthy we can have Dial as a DE with Tank.
Is Brooks gone for sure, maybe he takes a paycut? (Although I want him gone, he is too inconsistent. If he played all games 100% would be different but he doesn't)
Aldon and Lynch, will be fine, along with Skuta or Lemonier as backup. I like Moody available and Wilhoite as backup at ILB. Secondary should be good, especially with guys being healthy.
Realistically I want the season to end so quick so we can move ahead with the new coaches and hopefully have things to be excited about.San Francisco 49ers

If we switch to a 4-3 it will be kind of interesting.
Yes it will allow us to put Willis Borland and Bowman on the field together but the DL becomes interesting.
Logjam at DE with Aldon, Lynch and Tank.
It actually would be a good switch for all those guys but you lose the ability to have 3 pass rushers on the field at the same time. Not sure Tank would make a good switch to 4-3 DT but I guess it's possible.
I hope we retain the defensive coaches tho

I don't like the idea of a 4-3, I don't think the personnel is in place for it. Who would be the mike? Borland?

If the scheme changes it will be a coach who is a 4-3 coach by philosophy. The new DC wont cater a system to the personnel, at least its not usually how thats done. Players are drafted to fit the established system.
Also there are not that many differences between a 4-3 and a 3-4. All teams mix up their fronts every game anyway. Sometimes there are 5 down, sometimes 3. They do exist, but the real differences in defense come in blitz frequency, man vs zone, various types of zones, etc. The front has less to do with it than people think.
Borland is a good player, and I hope the new DC utilizes him on 1st downs at least. He's pretty green in pass coverage though.

How would you guys feel about a guy like Rex Ryan coming over as the DC after the Jets fire him?
Imagine having a genius like Kubiak on offense and another genius like Rex on defense...
I just got wood.

I don't think it's that much of a pipe dream. I don't think Rex is going to be a head coach next year and I could definitely see him wanting out of the microscope of NY. Not only that he'd have the chance to work with some amazing talent on defense. Being the Niners DC could easily have a Rex as a strong HC candidate in 2-3 seasons.

I wouldn't mind Rex as a DC. Not HC, but DC I am ok with.

Rex at DC is a stud. Only thing I'd hate about it is he'd be gone in a year or two.

Sign me up for Rex in the unfortunate event that Fangio bolts

Serious question...
Harbaugh is under contract for another year. What would happen if the front office fired Roman as soon as the season was over. Sat down with Harbaugh and told him "you've got 2 options"
1) We trade you for the Raiders for a 1st round pick and you agree to it
2) We refuse to let you out of your contract or fire you and we're hiring your next offensive coordinator and you're a lame duck coach in 2015.
Does he have ANY recourse aside from bolting for the minor leagues? Does anyone know if Harbaugh has complete control over his coaching staff?
If he doesn't, is there any logical reason why you wouldn't do the above and force this fukker to sign off on a trade to the Raiders for a bounty of picks?

Do you actually think this conversation takes place? I don't think anybody operates this way. Seems like a good movie scene, but I dont think they give ultimatums to a guy like harbaugh in this way. He would just agree to the latter then fuk the front office over for being dicks.

Only reason a conversation like that even has a remote chance of happening is if that's the only way the niners FO thinks they can get leverage on him.
Unfortunately the more we see things go down the less leverage they get...Michigan offer is really kind of screwing things up royally.
If all the stuff was coming from NFL teams then 49ers can get something decent for him. But with Michigan in the picture I'm sure Harbaugh can just say "well I'm going to take that offer instead" and niners would get nothing.
Best case scenario for the niners are several NFL teams getting desperate and Harbaugh having a big enough ego to think he can recover that team giving up a first round pick for him.

Dude we're not getting a first round pick for Harbs. Just not going to happen. I think our front office needs to do whatever it can to retain the defensive staff. Maybe make a deal with Harbs to part ways on good terms if we can retain Fangio and co.

Jesus... i can't believe you guys don't think a conversation like that couldn't take place. If it were my team I'd be more than happy to remind that fukker who signs his checks.
I'd also have a giggle forcing him to uproot his family and have to live in cold ass Michigan the next 8 years if he wouldn't agree.

It's all about the $$$$$$$$
The 49ers as long as the front office is competent and the GM stock piles talent will ALWAYS be a desired destination for coaches. New stadium, California living and team history. If the Raiders can keep getting coaches then the 49ers always will.
The only way you deal with a bully is meeting him head on and whether you guys realize it out not Harbaugh is a bully. Had the younger York checked his bitch ass in the off season about the issues with Baalke we wouldn't be 7-7.
