Fans are turning on the management even more after Holmgren was denied. I really think the interviews are just to keep the media happy and they're going to promote Fangio. No other reason you'd deny him the chance to interview with other teams.

Sure there is, they'd like to keep him as a defensive coordinator at best and a desperation fallback option for HC at worst. Fangio isn't getting any interest from any other teams for a HC gig, the only interview request was from Washington for their defensive coordinator position, a lateral move.,


I think Fangio is the "break in case of emergency" option, if they miss out on their favorite candidate(s), he's their last ditch effort guy. I'm still hoping for Kubiak. Failing that....Gase.......failing that.....Austin. Nothing about Fangio has ever screamed "head coach material" to me. He's a good coordinator for the 49ers but even as a DC he was rather average to mediocre before coming to the 49ers.

Promote Fangio to HC and hire Trestman as OC

I think i'm leaning towards Gary Kubiak as the head coach. I think he would most likely convince Fangio to stay on keeping out defense intact. Not sure who he'd bring in as OC but he's a proven offensive coach after coaching Steve Young in his finest year as QB coach and then going to Denver as OC winning 2 Super Bowls with a Elway and a great running game. His offense in Houston was great but it was Matt Schuab's inability that did Kubiak in.
