Hi.
I've been arguing with vegans all ****ing day on another forum about why a vegan diet isn't optimum for packing on lean mass.
Can anyone here explain concisely what makes a carnivorous diet so much better for a bodybuilder than one without animal products?
It's not just protein.
thank you so much for any help.

i love to argue too, but is is rather pointless...what you can argue is the defieciency in vitamins/minerals that u can't obtain from meat... also, i don't believe that soy/tofu protein is a complete amino acid formula...however i might be wrong...

I wish I had the willpower to be a vegan. It really doesn't take THAT much protein to build muscle...it takes tons of calories (which are most easily consumed in carbohydrate form). A vegan diet can easily achieve high levels of protein for bodybuilding from things like hemp seed, beans, nuts, legumes, pea protein powder, other supplements.

Don't argue with the PETA freaks they will just drag you down to their level of blunt force stubborness and idicoy and beat you with experience.
I don't believe Veaganism is a healthy approach to a human diet. Even with percise planning it's beyond the didication of 99.9% of them to fully satisfy their dietary requirments. If their true Vegans, ie absolutly no animal products whatsoever they will need cetain micologicaly derived B vitamins or they will slip into a coma and die....

I know there's one really massive vegan pro bodybuilder from the 70's i think, but his name evades me right now.
I don't see how eating meat is any better than being vegan. Of course you'll have many more foods to choose from, but a vegan can get all of their macro and micronutrients from fruits, vegetables, and grains.US ARMY Noncommissioned Officer

i think its funny because in your first "paragraph" you sound like an idiot. i was a vegetarian up until the beginning of 2007. i packed on lots of mass with out meat. i just made a choice to start eating meat. and before you call people idiots you should learn how to spell.

vegans are treehugging hippies. i dont know how they can consider themselves healthy when all the eat are vergetables. humans are at the top of the food chain...utlize it just dont bother with them because they are like every other radical group and wont shut up.

Aside from the fact that your probably trolling some vegan forum for your amusement you do deserve some help.
Iron deficency- impaired recovery powers, blood clots slower, bruise easier ect. in addition to slowing growth and what not
Ammino acids- man doesn't make enough of them for a "complete" protein and he must take them from nature in the form of other animals whose bodies do make it. However legumes (nuts) and plants do have what we need to make complete proteins if you take in a wide variety of food types. However much of the protein will be wasted because it is incomplete.
Creatine- man doesn't produce "optimal" levels of it by himself and when you eat red meats you will have more of it stored in your muscles. Studies on creatine have shown that it increases your strength/endurance in type IIb muscle fibers.
Now the argument over weather or not they can live "healthy" over just eating vegetables is stupid and unwin-able because they can live health. They can also take crap engineered in a pharmacy that doesn't kill animals but contains everything you can get from animals and cancer inside of it.
The problem is why would you want to? It is easier to eat meat (and they probably should conceede to this as being a vegan takes willpower and dedication to avoid those foods)
Humans evolved because they ate meat and it was the best/easiest to obtain source of protein vitamins minerals ect. They didn't have multivitamin tablets so they could choose not to eat something because it made them squimish.
Historically groups and ethnicities who ate lots of animal products dominated those who did not. Nomadic "barbarians" who lived with their cattle or hunted the plains herdes terrorized farmers and stationary groups who lived off of grain and wine. The term barbarian comes from "butter eater" as the romans did not approve of what they did with milk to get butter.
Oh yeah and we as people currently eat meat more frequently than most people did back in the day as it is easier to obtain. We're also taller, more altheletic, possibly smarter, ect. Don't bring in evolution as a reason for that as how many kids you have is never effected by how smart/strong or sucessful you are. If anything sucessful driven smarter people have less kids and the people who have the most kids are of lower income.

If you want to get big, be good at the Squat, Deadlift, pull and bench press, the rest is between you and your dinner plate.
There are 10 types of people: those that understand binary and those that do not.
I was at the Zoo the other day, there was only one animal there: a dog. It was a ****zu.
