    Hey dude,

what I read about it is that it's related to repetitive movement injuries (tendonitis).

As some tennis players, golfers or musicians, putting stress on joints/tendons all the time is no good.

For cardio stuff, best thing would be to vary your activities so that different muscles are worked out in different ways.

I'm also a running fan, and usually people wouldn't think tendonitis could happen in legs/feet.

I got injured on my arms/wrists due to computer typing, lack of sleep and pleying music..no fun, it's been 2 years and I can still feel it if I'm stressing 'em too much.

Of course, everybody has a different body construction..some may run all their life without any problems and some may get those injuries. But having this leg related, that must suck..I mean who doesn't walk at least once in a day ? lol

I would stay away from jogging. It's fairly low intensity to begin with, and the previous poster was right that it can cause injuries over the long term. Most of the clients I see with trashed knees got them that way from jogging. If you want to do some cardio check this site out http://www.crossfit.com you'll wonder why you were wasting your time jogging.
I will still run once a week or so for sport specificity, but no reason to do so otherwise.

Im kind of interested in this aswell since I was thinking of jogging 3-5 miles every morning and then doing weights later in the day. I mean there are a lot of examples of people who have done so without any harm.

And for sure without any noticeable skeleton muscle mass on them too...

I guess the main cons with the jogging are the loss of lean body mass, in a long run you cannot achieve balanced fitness if you fatigue yourself with 3-5 mi jog a day. I dont think HIIT is something new that had been just discovered ... The trick is to keep the fin of jogging and the fun of anaerobic fatigue in the same workout. This must be hiit I like hiit, dont know what so dull with it you dont want to do it.?.

no I was actually thinking of boxers that jog 3-5 miles a day, and Kurt Angle who was running 30 mins a day preping up for the olympics and Will Smith who was running 3 miles a day during his ali training. All people with muscle.

    Right!
But still boxers represent some training routine that has lots of cardio(and hiit in that account); In fact a boxer that jogs heavily (for a boxer) sill has the jogging as about 15% of the whole training routine. Boxing training sessions are a big HIITs.

So yes, boxers do sacrifice some of the strength just in order to enable themselves recruiting enough aerobic energy so a long match wont be a new experience.(that would be quite bad in boxing :-) )
I still believe that hiit shows better results in terms of more "body oriented" goals like be generally more fit, loose weight by maintaining strength and lean body mass. Improve cardiovascular fitness.
(I was jogging myself, but it wasn't until I started to do hiit that my rest pulse fell bellow 46)

former runner here, and havent really ran in a bit but I was sort of planning to get back into it.

What would be the best way to combine hiit with long distance running? And what type of weight training would compliment it?

    Running or Jogging

Run or Jog if you like it. Running is natural, like walking. There are no "gimmick's". Step out the door and go. No need for fancy shoes, clothes, etc.. Look at a Boxer's workout. Most still put in 3-8 miles of roadwork/day. HIIT training is great, but takes more commitment.
CrossFit is the new fad. It's pretty good. Just a new take on OldSchool training... AND it is EXPENSIVE! And those pull-ups i see people doing in the gym! Yanking and flailing.
If you're young and want to go Big, go Big. If you're 41+ like me, maybe you like a slim look. I jog about 35 miles/week. Plus track session. Different Sprint sessions.
Meal Plan is key too. You will hear this a lot. ANd it's true.

Don't combine them at all. Run LOng one day, and do a HIIT session another day. HIIT is just a new-fancy Acronym for Old-School training. 2 400's at a light jog. 3x40, walk back is the rest for all, 3x60, 3x80, 3x100, 3x120. 2 400's cool down, light jog. Stretch. Done

There is always some fat retard in the gym with a huge beer gut telling you jogging will kill your gainz. Do not listen to that ass hole. As long as your focus is lifting and you eat enough it will not hurt your gainz. Besisdes gainz mean fuk all if your not in shape
