The title should be enough to lure Stressmonkey in here!
Sooooo, Apple being located in the San Francisco area has finally come back to bite them. The new OS X operating system has gone ghey with pastels and nice bright colors every f'cking place. I laughed when iOS 7 came out looking like a f'cking candy store, now I'm going to get a damned toothache every time a boot up my Mac.
Jony F'cking Ive, what have you done?

They have to keep fucking with it and fucking with it until it sucks just as bad as windows.
I made the jump from 10.6.8 to 10.9 directly and am actually pretty happy with it. There are a few new features that'll probably use at some point but all in all I just want stable and functional. I sure as **** don't want it to look like iOS.2 + 2 = 5 (for extremely large values of 2)

The irony here is Apple has a history of accusing Microsoft of copying from them and yet these semi-transparent panels and such came from MS first, and they've had the good sense to abandon them already! All the over bright colors are distracting. Apple has clearly lost their way when it comes to software design!!
Have to hope the dark theme will be better.I'm a sad little man

Transparency has been a thing in Linux for a long time. Maybe I just don't know what specific transparency thing you're referring to here. Most of this frufru stuff I couldn't care less about, as long as what's under the hood is okay. I use mail, pdf viewer, some MS office products, the browser, for run of the mill stuff but I spend most of my time in a terminal window.

I was the same way, but my old pro was reaching its end of life. Some of the software packages I was using were no longer supported in 10.6.8. Rather than try to upgrade up through the versions I just got a new pro and mapped everything over. It worked okay. I had to rebuild a good bit of my own software but all in all it wasn't as painful as I had expected.

I honestly don't give a chit what it looks like as long as it works. It's not like there's some insane learning curve from one OS (or version of OS) to the next.

The new ones are pretty damn nice. The speed-up was remarkable.
People take jabs at the Apple price tag, but considering how many thousands of hours I spend on my primary computer during its life I really don't care if it costs a little bit more. It's worth every penny.2 + 2 = 5 (for extremely large values of 2)

Apple added to iOS and now OS X 10.10 a kind of transparency in which the desktop wallpaper appears as though it's being filtered through frosted glass. If you've ever used Window's after XP it's the same distracting kind of garbage they did in Vista and version 7. It gets frustrating that they put so much emphasis on looking pretty that they lose track of being good.

Fair enough. I do web development so I spend 99% of my time either in a browser or in an IDE or database interface. The only reason I got a Mac in the first place was to develop iOS apps (as a hobby). I've also done some tinkering with Logic Pro X. But I don't really use the Mac for anything beyond that.

One would think that they would come with some sort of adjustments or settings to change the look of it. You know, like windows has.

Negative Nancy doesn't like an Apple upgrade. This is so shocking.
And they also added a way to disable the transparencies in iOS if you don't like them. Not seeing what the issue is. I like them. I did turn off the jumping in and out of folders that was giving people motion sickness. That looked awful.
It will be nice to make phone calls from my Mac using my "real" cell phone number. There will come a day when I tire of listening to 80's music. That day is not today.
