Using the video tag requires more effort, but they always look better in the browsers that I use. Plus, you can embed videos from other locations such as vimeo.
Using video ID twice just to embed a video is a prime example how backward and outdated this bodybuilding forum is. Coders would call it redundant. In the example above the video ID is _QbFZJs1MjY.

Modern forum engines like Xenforo allow video embedding from multiple sites with a simple click on the media icon in the reply window and pasting any existing URL versions like those of youtube videos for example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QbFZJs1MjY
http://www.youtube.com/v/_QbFZJs1MjY
http://www.youtu.be/_QbFZJs1MjY

If you want do it manually it's just: .

But we are in the "When cavemen roamed the land" section of the internet aka forum.bodybuilding. So we have to go through extra steps.

It's my impression that the bodybuilding.com could turn on other features in the forum software that they're using, but that they are not for some reason. Other forums that I have used (which use the same forum software) have a much nicer editor. Here at bb.com, we have to enter most of the markup by hand.

I've noticed recently that Ctrl-I and Ctrl-B will insert and . If you have some text selected, then this mark up will be placed around the selected text. There are probably other control characters that work for this too, but I don't know what they all are. It's still not as convenient as having a button that you can press with your mouse at the top of the editing window.

I agree with you regarding the video tag. Having to enter redundant stuff by hand is annoying. It wouldn't be so bad if it were done behind the scenes for you.

According to the source code forum.bodybuilding is powered by vBulletin 4.1.4 which is just an outdated rewrite of the older vBulletin 3 version. Yes, the editor on this site is stripped off icon shortcuts. But even if Xenforo were stripped for comparison, it's still way more modern and convenient:

vBulletin:

Xenforo: .
