I have seen recently where both McEnroe and Agassi have said Nadal is the greatest player ever. I haven't watched much tennis since the early 90's but I thought Federer or Sampras were considered to be the best ever. After my 15 second google search it seems most think it is either Nadal or Federer. True?
According to my Dad, Nadal isn't even the best clay court player; Borg, Everet, and Graf were all better but he's old and that could be a generational thing. He also goes on about how Connors was better than Sampras. I don't know.
Just wondering.

All I've been eating is Mexican food and pizza this summer. I did go to a BBQ joint and had a restaurant burger at the start though.
And 2 double-double's at In-N-Out on the way home.

There are two schools of thought:
1. Player with the most slams is the GOAT. That's Federer. Most slams across all surfaces (Nadal won 8 of his 13 on clay). In his prime he was the #2 clay player to Nadal while being the best on grass, hardcourt, and indoors.
He's also far more consistent going by year-end No. 1s, and GS finals, SF, and QF streaks. From mid-2004 to mid-2010, he never lost earlier than the semis in a slam. Nadal in his prime lost in the 2nd round or earlier at Wimbledon 2 years in a row. Federer never had those lapses until recently (in his 30s).
2. Federer has 17 slams, Nadal has 13 slams, but Nadal has a superior H2H record (most of those wins were on clay) and hasn't lost to Federer in a slam since 2007. That's what Agassi and McEnroe seem to care about — H2H record.
I think Nadal is the greatest claycourt player of all-time although he's benefited greatly from today's racket/string technology that allows him to generate an incredible amount of topspin. Borg played with a small wooden racket. So how do you compare eras?
Court surfaces and balls have been slowed down to suit today's baseline players like Nadal who can hit winners from 15ft behind the baseline.
I don't think Nadal would have had much success in the 90s outside of clay on fast courts against the likes of Sampras. Agassi used to take the ball early and relied on incredible timing to still thrive in an era of big servers — Nadal needs to stand way back and needs higher bouncing courts. Watch him indoors on a fast court for evidence of this. His indoor record is terrible.

They look like the clear contenders for the AL East. They have been tearing it up and the rest of the div hasn't done much at all.
I mean, I think you can say they're probably legit. After the first two months they have the 3rd best record in the league. Health permitting, I think they'll be in it. They have the staff on hand to do it. Perhaps they finally put it together.
+ In after TAAB.-

I don't follow the sport as closely as yourself, but doesn't that also have a lot to do with Nadal being a few years younger and hitting the meat of his prime at the same time that Federer began hitting the tail-end of his? Obviously Fed ended up putting together another strong streak of play to prolong his run of success up until the past couple years, but I seem to remember there was a time in the late 00's that people began wondering if we had seen the last of the elite Federer.
I think Federer is the GOAT. Besides the whole "most-GS-wins", that run of reaching the semi's of every GS is just incredible. Nadal is great in his own right no doubt, I guess I just never totally felt blown away by his dominance as I did Federer or Sampras for that matter. I'm a Djoker fan myself having jumped on his bandwagon early and I hope he can finally put it together long enough to really make a run at greatness; jury is still out on that one.Return of the Mack?

Timely book recommendation: I've had this one for years, it's a very good read on the events IMO. All of his books that I have read (more than a half dozen) have been good. (FWIW, he's the writer of Band of Brothers, the original/book)

Read it a couple of times. Pretty good.
It's crazy what it took to pull that off, how many people were involved, and how many different plans/plots/strategies/missions were going on. Even the book can only capture the overview of the entire thing. Which is pretty indicative of WWII itself, which really has to be the most epic event that has ever happened. Just the sheer scope of the war is mind-boggling.
Pearl Harbor, D-Day, Battle of Britain, Battle of the Bulge, Patton, Rommel, The Manhattan Project, U-Boats, Liberty Ships, Guadalcanal, Midway, Hiroshima, Iwo Jima, jet airplanes, Rosie the Riveter, The Holocaust, the war drive & war bonds, rationing, The Eagle's Nest, the firebombing of Dresden, the occupation of Paris, the Eastern front & Stalingrad, the Bataan Death March, the Enigma device, the auto plants converting to build planes/tanks/etc., etc., etc.☠ By reading this post, you have agreed to my negative reputation terms of service.

One that I read earlier this year that is also very good.

Landing 170,000 in one day, 1,000,000 over 3 weeks, and getting to Berlin in less than a year is absolutely amazing.
Although Russia tends not to get enough credit ( at least in the U.S) for without their resistance on the eastern front things could have turned out a little differently.
