SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – Will Brooks‘ upset of Michael Chandler on Saturday would seem to mean he’ll get Eddie Alvarez.

But not so fast. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said a clause in Alvarez’s contract could throw a wrench into the works.

Brooks scored a big upset of Chandler in the Bellator 120 co-main event on Saturday at Landers Center in Southaven, Miss., just south of Memphis. The card was Bellator’s first on pay-per-view, and Brooks won the promotion’s interim lightweight title with the win.

Brooks took the fight with Chandler on just a week’s notice after Alvarez had to pull out of his trilogy rematch with Chandler thanks to a concussion. With heavy odds against him, Brooks took a split decision with scores of 48-46 and 48-47, while Chandler got a 48-47 from one judge.

But when Alvarez signed his new deal with Bellator, it was for a guaranteed fight with Chandler, Rebney said. Contractually, if that’s what Alvarez wants for his next fight, that’s what Bellator may have to give him.

That would mean Brooks, as the interim lightweight titleholder, may be on hold for a titel unification bout with Alvarez, whose return time table is not yet known.

“The reality of the situation is that Ed’s contract specifies that his next fight be against Michael Chandler,” Rebney said after Saturday’s post-event news conference. “So Ed now is in a position where he can choose to fight Chandler, and contractually we have to give him the Chandler fight. … It’s a situation we’ll have to sit down and discuss with him, and figure out where it goes, because he’s got paperwork and he’s got a contract that gives him the right to demand the Chandler fight.

for real.. i dont know a single person who watches that ****.. but you see mma advertised all over sports bars, tv, etc... thats actually surprising.

I was looking for compustrike stats on the Rampage Lawal fight but you have to download the bellator app, I did that and they only give overall fight stats, no round by round breakdown, I wanted to see if Lawal landed more than 3 strikes in the 3rd round, I think he landed one standing and maybe 2 on the ground. Big John doesn't like to stand guys up, but the purely holding on for dear life grappling with no attempt to do anything but burn the clock was amazingly bad, a total bitch move, I didn't think the judges would give Rampage that round, but they absolutely did the right thing.

The judges scored the last round in favor of Brooks. I have no idea what fight they were watching but getting dropped and almost choked out does not win anyone a round

It's crazy how anyone with a neutral standpoint in that fight wouldnt agree with you....Wrestling is cool and everything, but only if the intentions are to get to positions to submit or do damage...King mo does nothing but run the clock down.
