get lean. if youre lean enough you will have abs regardless. they may look different, slightly less symmetrical, 6 pack or 8 pack, etc, but low bf = abs.

It's simple, actually:
*Train on a well-balanced program of mostly compound lifts augmented with some direct ab work.
*Dial-in your nutrition to a precise level of calories and macros so that you reduce body fat while still maintaining as much of your hard-earned muscle mass as possible.
*Picking the right parents helps in regards to the ultimate shape of the trained muscles.
*Voila; a good-looking physique with visible abs.
NOTE: Don't confuse the words "simple" and "easy;" they're not interchangeable, especially when it comes to bodybuilding. No brain, no gain.

They are huge and stone like cause the dude is frikin jacked. He probably lifted weights in general for at least 5 years to get them that thick. Or maybe he had 'help', such as the 'magic ab fence' posted above.
Bottom line is the journey to a look like that is a VERY time consuming one, so you better be willing settle in for years and years of bodybuilding to reach that level.

Diet. Learn more about nutrition. Pretty much everyone I ever talked about nutrition was wrong in terms of their macros and daily calorie estimation, unless they were tracking everything. Go to nutrition section here on bb.com and check out the stickes. Cardio and weight lifting are important too. Training all of your body parts helps to achieve goals quicker, so don't neglect legs.

You don't 'need' weighted crunches as it's nothing but another routine and tbh crunches are second to dragons, hanging raises and even declines rotating crunches but after you've developed a strong core.
If you can do 100 crunches in 4 sets with ease, then move on to weighted crunches.
At the same time if you can do 30 + crunches when doing hanging raises with ease, time to straighten the legs and touch the bar....
Point being, add resistance as you add strength.
