    Rowing Machines

In England, the concept 2 rower is utilised by almost every sports team especially rugby and football as one of the main fitness tools. We utilise it for tons of interval work and long distance stuff as its benefits are fantastic for athletes.

Why do American's never seem to use it? or at least never write about it?

I always get the impression that American's focus massively on weights doing lots of squats and bench, but don't seem to put much emphasis on fitness other than on the field stuff.

My guess is that most info in American S&C comes out of football, which is an almost purely alactic sport. There is no need for American Football players to train the pathways we typically train for Rugby, soccer, etc. The Prowler gets a good rap because it fits that mould.

The rower is my favourite conditioning tool for Rugby, too. Followed by the Prowler or the scrum sled.

That's a good question. They are cheap and a great way to flush the system without putting stress on the lower body. I would think coaches would love these for recovery and to work on oxidative work capacity. For whatever reason they are somewhat unknown in the US outside of the CF community.
