I agree with this. I WAS one of those people.
I still have a desk job where I sit for 8 hours a day, but now when the job is done, I chose to be active and MOVE and eat a lot less to make up for the fact I sit for 8 hours. Most of my fellow co-workers, however, are over weight. I don't let it affect me though. If that's the way they want to be and they are happy, who am I to judge?

I bet you don't have the stamina to lift a 1x4 for half a day
Why should I subsidise your travel costs which in terms of fuel are nearly twice that of mine, maybe more thinner people would travel
a. because they would get a discount
b. the Huge person in the next seat wouldn't be leaning and sweating on them the whole journey
as for your health care analysis people will live longer because medicine can keep even chronically ill people going for a long time the healthy ones who live to a similar age will cost a lot less.
Its funny that America seems to be all about the individual making and taking responsibilities for their choices in life, why are there exceptions for people whose condition is pretty much down to the fact that they just eat far too much than they actually need

It's a syndrome that can develop as a result of his height. I've got nothing against shorter people (my wife is 5'1"), but it seems like he has something to prove. Combine that with his age and name "AncientYouth", you just picture a small, bitter, old man trying to pretend he's 19 again.
Sorry for my own negatively but his ignorance has annoyed me. I'll stop now.April 1, 2014 - 315.0/31%

Man, it's a good thing none of us were ever overweight and we can judge other people for being overweight.

Agreed
completely agree with this. Fat and overweight are such taboos nowadays that I think a lot of the stigma which used to discourage people getting fat has gone, which in turn encourages obesity. The majority of the population nowadays are overweight, and the majority constitutes what's normal.
Healthy and fit people are now in the minority.

you guys are too funny you get upset about someone posting that obesity has become the norm on a losing fat thread ...really if you love being hugely overweight and unfit why do you come here?
Why are you trying to get cut or ripped if you don't mind being fat?
why do tall massively obese people automatically fall back on the boring old height yawn comments,
I'm just 3 years older than you so your not exactly a kid are you, maybe your just a bitter tall fat old man who will never look fit and healthy again
for the record I am now as lean if not leaner than I was at 19 years old how are you doing?
The reality is I have actually been overweight the majority of my adult life a few up and downs but generally too heavy, I never blamed my metabolism or my job or my emotions or made any pathetic excuses which so many seem to make up for themselves I was just a greedy fella who ate too much.
I took responsibility for my own actions and made a huge and long lasting change....
seriously if being fat is so great why are you here?

I really wasn't going to post in here, but whatever.
We get that fat is the norm. It's unfortunate that society has become what it is, where people focus more on money money money and no time for themselves. Life is all about convenience and shortcut these days. Everyone is Living to work, and things like cooking food is a hassle because it takes too much time. Because So many of us are now overweight, It has in fact, become the norm.
the issue in this thread is your idea of a fat tax and everything else. We here were lucky enough to realize what's important to us in our lives and we put our bodies at the top of that list. You're in the est shape of your life now. It took you almost 50 years to get there.... you said you didn't make excuses, but not caring is just as bad, so it doesn't make you exempt.
Not everyone has had their realization that if you take care of your body, it'll take care of you. They don't value it like we do, but it doesn't mean they never will.
The media only shows two extremes: well fit and obese. 20% on a male is not obese. It's pretty average. but even in this thread people act like you're a pig at 20%. Middle ground needs to be established.
Also people talk about your height because you show signs of a napolean complex. You may not realize it, but you try to go in hard with personal attacks on people for very minute reasons. Not only do you try to belittle their character, but you try to praise yours at the same time. I've told you before it's bad form. It's a good thing you don't care about being in the red, because until you change the crazy over reactions you'll be forever in the red. It's unfortunate, because you do provide solid advice when you're not throwing out belittling opinions. The red will make people question your credibility, no matter how much you've lost and overcame over the course of your life.

I challenge you to find a post in this thread where I made a personal attack on someone who did not insult me first, in fact I think I have actively tried to NOT make this thread personal but so many seem to wish to make it so?
this thread was simply an observation that just so many people seem to be what I refer to as casually overweight , I didn't personalize it to anyone here , some chose to take it that way
why don't you comment on them

I take full responsibility for my own actions in eating too much in the past and accepted the potential ramifications, no one force fed me , no one told me to stop training as a responsible adult I full take full responsibility for it.
now all of a sudden everyone's got a metabolic disorder, or are an 'emotional eater' whatever that Oprah nonsense is, somehow its not their fault society is to blame.
We Tax Smokers, Drinkers, House buyers, workers, motorists etc why are people who simply eat too much and as a result cost us more money be exempt?

Where I live, we tax certain foods, as per;
THE RETAIL SALES TAX ACT
FOOD AND BEVERAGES
This bulletin summarizes the kind of food and beverages that are retail sales tax (RST) exempt and
the kind that are subject to tax. The lists provided include most food items but are not all-inclusive.
Section 1 – GENERAL INFORMATION
The sales tax on food and beverages is generally applicable as follows:
• Food and beverages that are considered basic groceries sold for human
consumption are exempt from tax. (see Section 2)
• Prepared food and beverages sold in a form for immediate consumption are
not considered to be basic groceries and are taxable. (See “Prepared Food
and Beverages” in Section 3).
• Food and beverages sold through a vending machine are taxable. (See
“Vending Machine Sales” in Section 3).
• Food and beverages are not considered to be basic groceries when sold at an
establishment at which all or substantially all of the sales of food and
beverages are taxable. (See “Sales in Eating Establishments” in Section 3).
As you can see, food's that are more or less responsible for obesity (Snack food's, Fast food's, etc...) are taxable, Of course it's the influx in calorie's that is the real cause of weight gain, but you get the idea."The reason why we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind the scenes with everyone else's highlight reel."

Well its something but in reality anyone who takes an IIFYM approach may well regularly eat the so called 'snack foods' and still remain a healthy weight, I certainly love a nice snack type food on a regular basis
it comes down to the old Gun control argument and the American right to bear arms debate, guns cant kill people by themselves its individuals who choose to shoot them
food cant make you overweight by it self you have to Over consume it to get obese
What has been conveniently ignored here is my comments about Incentivising the positive benefits of maintaining healthy weight? such as lower taxes, lower health care costs , cheaper travel etc
this would encourage people to be healthier as it would have a direct financial benefit to them, and make them less of a financial risk to us all
Why do you think insurance companies ask you about your weight, and smoking habits on insurance forms? because if you are overweight and/or smoke they are more likely to have to pay out on you hence your premiums are higher because you are a higher risk
