It depends what you're referring to... performing in class or on a standardized test like the MCAT. As far as classroom tests go, expose yourself to the material in as many ways as you can, Visually, Audibly and practically if you can.... Truly try to understand the material and apply it to a system in your mind so you can visualize it during the test or questions... Also before the test make sure to do practice questions or try to get your hands on some questions that teachers have asked in the past. This will help you Understand the level of depth they expect you to understand the topic. Also, Pneumonics.... Pnemonics for days.... It's not a false standard. If you're applying to a competitive med school like Duke or anywhere else with high standard applicants, you need those kinds of scores to have decent chances of getting in. I'm not saying you can't get in on other merits, like playing D1 sports, publishing scientific papers, president of multiple clubs, etc. though, because many students do every cycle. So while 33+ MCAT scores aren't necessary, for a large % people applying, they are when getting into highly competitive MD schools.
But ofc, you need to have volunteering, shadowing, research, and great recommendations to have a good chance of getting into medical school. Just a high GPA and MCAT score isn't enough.

Assuming you obviously finished organic and the other prereqs by then, thats really not an excuse and you should have learned everything you needed to do well. There are non science majors who take the only the pre-reqs for the mcat/medical school and never take another science class and do great on the mcat.
