Hey misc my GF needs help with her weight loss. Her starting weight was 80kg and is now 72kg at 5'9. She doesnt want to go to the gym so she only uses a cross trainer for exercise. She burns 500cals a day for 30min 6 days a week at high intensity. Shes been at 72kg for the past 2 weeks and isn't losing any more weight, but keeps saying shes changing in the mirror but not on the scale? Shes currently cutting on around 1300cals. Shes on a keto diet so about 10% carbs and approx 60% protein and 30% fats.
So should she drop more cals, do more exercise or both? Her goal is 60kg by end of August.

She doesn't need to cut any more calories... She should cut ALL junk from her diet though. I mean all "processed food" (basically meaning pre-packaged) and eat as much 'organic' whole food as possible. No soda/pop, cut out carbonated beverages. She should start walking more, start doing short burst high-intensity exercises. I'd suggest she learn kettlebelling, specifically from Dragon Door (youtube Dragon Door Pavel). Eat a tablespoon (or two) of raw organic coconut oil 10-20 minutes before her meals (very healthy while sating her appetite, diminishing her appetite) and start drinking raw organic apple cider vinegar (with the "mother" included - I suggest Bragg's brand) - 2 tablespoons in a glass of water, 2-3 times per day. Also, at least 3 liters of fluoride free water per day. I'd suggest artesian (natural spring) water, or reverse osmosis. A whole-food derived multivitamin, preferably organic, as well.

she aint counting calories properly bro, no way is she eatting 1300cal a day and burning 500cal and not loosing weight. Either she is not counting the cheat meals she has every other day, or just not counting properly at all. if she goes 2 weeks without loosing weight on 1300cal a day without any cheat days, then go see a doctor because thats a medical issue.
I would advise, cut out all the cheat days/binge eatting on weekend. Up calories to 2000cal a day. Stick too this for 3 weeks. I garentee she will loose weight.

Oh misc. How did you not predict this, OP?
But listen, your girl's doing the right thing, but the smaller your overall body mass, the fewer calories needed to maintain it. She's lost more than 10 per cent of her bodyweight, so her maintenance calories are around 10 per cent lower as well.
So, she needs to up to cardio 10 per cent to cover this, or work on developing some lean body mass to increase her maintenance calories.
The fact she can see changes in the mirror but not on the scale reflects increased LBM from the cross-trainer. So this is why I recommend more cardio rather than fewer calories.
If she bitches it's all too much, bertstare. It wasn't meant to be easy.
Ex-fatass crew.

I am said gf here.. i am counting calories everyday as i am preparing for a formal event later in the year so i am being very strict. My confusion is that while the scales are not moving down every few days i can see a distinct difference in my appearance in the mirror as is evident by my midsection in photo 2 and i am buying xs and s sizes in clothes compared to m and l previously.. why do you think this is? i do have an inactive thyroid which i take iodine drops for and feel someway this may be holding me back??

At some point just mincing around on the cross trainer just isn't going to be enough (as you have found). Your body will hold on to fat if that's all you have. She needs to pick up a weight and build a little muscle. That will increase her metabolism and just overall make her look better. All she's doing now is becoming a slightly smaller version of the same fat person. You need to change her mind about "not wanting to go to the gym".

Inactive thyroid. Yes, this is significant. Why aren't you taking thyroid medication?
See my post above explaining why you see physical changes but not weight changes. You're developing lean body mass on your quads, glutes and hamstrings from the cross-trainer. These are large muscle groups, so any change is significant. You are doing the right thing but need to up your workload. Don't cut calories any more. You're already borderline and invite injury if you cut further.
