Very excited to hear what Canon chooses to do with the 5D line. My Mark III has been serving me well for over two years now but if Canon puts out a new sensor with increased DR I may have to upgrade. That's my only minor gripe with the 5D3, the DR is definitely weaker compared to Nikon.
Also I ordered 1000 business cards through vista print but mistyped the phone number, contacted them today saying I wasn't satisfied with the print quality and they issued me a full refund in like 3 seconds ayy lmao

Thanks! Everyone seems to love that one. When I let people go through the photos on my phone, they always stop at that one and say it's their favourite from the set.
I was walking around with the 50mm, so a lot of the shots of fireworks wouldn't work. I let my Gopro capture all the madness while I got some of the kids enjoying sparklers. This was in the Philippines btw, stayed with my step mum's family in the lower/middle class sort of area.
With the B&W photos, they were all post processing. How are you finding the film class?

Challenging. Learning a lot of processes and procedures that make me think I'm living back in the early 1900s. After the antiseptic workflow of digital, having to measure chemicals and timing processing seems almost primitive by comparison.
On the other hand, the good news is that I know its giving me a new perspective and foundation; and something that can't be substituted by any of today's modern digital workflows. Especially since you can't reverse any mistakes. Although I have to admit, there are still some post-processing similarities if not nearly as foolproof.
With B&W you're missing the color part of the visual. So you have to be especially creative in composition and shading if you want your audience to take the time to stop and appreciate your work. At this point, I'm still a long way from achieving that.🎥

Told the mrs I would share some of her photos. she's just starting to get into it. Nikon D3200 with 50mm lens and some minor minor lightroom 5 work.
Taken at the Auto Show this past weekend hence the single type of theme.
A photo at an auto show of a photo being taken by a guy taking a photo at an auto show. its like Inception.

What is your budget? My first, and still current, DSLR was a Canon T3i in a kit with a standard zoom and telephoto zoom lens. Similar to this:

Would highly recommend. Nikon has a similar entry level kit if you're leaning that direction.Movie Man

Watching the sun rise or set when you're on a plane is amazing. Nice photo.
Cheers man!
Thanks for the write up, Krane. Film class is something I wish I did back in high school. You're completely right about having a new perspective. A few times I've walked around with my Voigtlander and had to really think about making the shot worthwhile. Can't see what you've taken and definitely can't delete it.
Are you learning black and white only, or have you done colour film as well? I really look forward to hearing and seeing what progress you make.
Edit: Oh yeah, in other news...

congrats on getting the current goat dslr, might not be beaten any time soon.
while the 5ds from canon will beat it resolution wise, dynamic range and color depth wise I would be surprised if it does.
btw:
Nikon d800 36.6 mp : 7,360 x 4,912 pixels images
Canon 5ds 50.6 mp : 8,664 x 5,776 pixels images (estimate)
Visually looks like this:
definitively an improvement but less of a jump I would have expected from the mega pixel numbers alone, you see what I mean?
still want 50mp+ in my next Nikon camera though.

here are just some of the hundreds i took, no time to really process anything so some of these barely have been touched. Enjoyed my first trip with a dslr though, hope more to come. Not as nice as the in plane one but oh well what can ya do.

Agreed. 36mp is far enough for a FF sensor.
That 50mp Sony sensor which is already in the Phase One IQ250 and Pentax 645Z would be nice in a Nikon. They already have tilt-shift lenses with a larger image circle that could be modified to accommodate a larger mount for the larger sensor. FX lenses could then be mounted via an adapter and would work in crop mode with less resolution.
Sell the new camera for around $5K and kill off the competition.

They would, but it'd be like DX on a FX body. Honestly, this gives Nikon a chance to finally have a new mount though, and give them so much more engineering room when it comes to lens design. The F-Mount that we've had since about 1959 is rather small compared to other mounts.
Which is why this happens:
Look at what putting 50mp into a FF sensor does. brb ISO 6400. All for resolution that's obscene in a FF body, and DR that should have been there in the first place. Pretty sure the "S" stands for "Studio" because that's all it's going to be practical for, really.

Agree. Nikon and Canon seem to be caught in a MP war. At least with this new model it seems like they'll be releasing a few versions to suit different photographers. Worked really well for Sony.
I finally got my Cube tripod head delivered, so if the weather permits this weekend I'll get a few shots to compare the Phase with the D800 straight out of camera. I actually went with the 5 series Gitzo which can extend to about 9 feet, makes me feel like a midget fully extended, lol.

Fuarking
The D800 was a killer. If this were WW2, Canon would be late-war Germany. I feel as though Canon has no focus (lol) at the moment. 5Ds if what is purported is true, seems like a desperate grasp for straws.
Not a real estate photog, but I think straight away the lines being straight is a huge plus. I think the wall-lights being on detracts from it a bit as it's distracting due to it being a different colour than the natural light. Feel things like this should always be naturally lit, much more welcoming I would say?*Misc Photography Crew*

Im glad you mentioned vistaprint because I need some updated ones. What design did you choose? Just curious
Also with Canon updating the 5D line...I wonder if they will update the 6D. Maybe a 6DMKII with a focus system similar to the newer models? Dual card slot? Other than that I really cannot think of anything else the 6D would really need...

Extremely jealous of the PhaseOne ITT..my question is this and no disrespect for the PhaseOne user but other than doing work for major magazines and what not..what is the real point of using a medium format camera?
Maybe I sound like a dumbchit but when I view various photos on the computer (landscape, model, product, automotive, etc) I am amazed with the quality of images and they are from cameras such as 5DMKIII, 6D, D800, and even some crop cameras.
Even for magazines, I feel a 5DMKIII or a D800 would do the job JUST as well as a PhaseOne, Hassleblad, Pentax 645. If someone could shed some insight on that I would greatly appreciate it.
