I use the pull-ups station at my gym where at the widest points, the bar bends and angles downwards. This is where I usually place my hands.
What would be the difference between this grip and just a very wide grip but on a straight bar that does not bend downwards?

both narrow and wide will,
to me, the biggest difference between wide grip vs close is wide will work your lats closer to your armpits, giving you a more V look, while close grip will work your lats thickness down to your waist.. so it's best to do both. i do a set of wide then narrow, and alternate. i also use the handle you use for seated rows (palms facing each other) that really made my lats explode. this one:

Thank you for the replies but I dont think either response answered my question.
The question wasnt narrow vs. wide but rather wide with your hands dropped down on the part of the bar that bends down (see pic here: pullup.png,
or, the exact same width but on a bar that does not bend at the ends.
The first has my hands at 45 degree angles which causes the angle of the elbows to open more than when just holding a straight bar.Last edited by kwitel; 04-27-2014 at 07:54 AM.
