Sure does
And those consequences aren't the same as consequences that are legal in natureand take his attention away from making an arrest while dealing with a crowd of drunk people. Sure, speak as freely as you want, but you'll be facing the consequences.
I'm sure you can make "distracting the LEO" fit into whatever narrative you want for any arrest, need to draw a line somewhere. The guy was stepping back after he got shoved unless we're looking at two different videos. The job sucks, I understand, but that's not an excuse for landing some shots to the face.
Allow self defense on unlawful arrests and I'd be fine with it though

It's 2:30 am and you're dealing with intoxicated phucktards in a university town. You get called to a disturbance and have to make an arrest or maybe even place someone in protective custody while an investigation takes place. While you are affecting these actions, a crowd of retarded neckbeards and fat frumpy broads start to surround you and begin breaking the law by "practicing law without a license" (which is a legit charge BTW) and filming everything while shouting crap and slandering you while you're doing your job because it's 'cool to talk **** to cops, man!'
You have a belt full of weapons and the crowd starts getting closer and bolder. Then some idiot steps into your space while you're gaining control of the situation and starts to rile the crowd and distract you. What are you gonna do? Are you going to protect yourself or let yourself or partners become a casualty because you are "just ignoring it" and "letting them exercise their 1st Amendment"?
It's like you just hate cops. They deny you or something?"Some people spend their entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem."-President Ronald Reagan

Those in the police force MUST have patience. Being a cop is probably the number one job where it is a mandatory requirement to have patience. If you get upset over people cussing over you then you definitely should not qualify for the job at all. Based on this the cop was wrong in the situation. Doesn't matter how much of a douche the guy was being. If you lose your cool you don't have what it takes to be a cop.
Its similar to when your working in customer service. If a customer is cussing you off and being annoying as hell do you think the appropriate response is to punch them in the face? No you stay calm and try your best to deal with the situation.

Looked completely fine to me. He just tackled and subdued a guy who was actively resisting arrest by back pedalling and using his arms to block the officer from getting a hold of him. The cop wasn't pummelling his face into the pavement or anything. However, I think police should be responsible for any damage caused to the car the guy got knocked into by the cop.

Law Enforcement usually deals with customers who are wrong. Inaccurate example.
Do you know that guy? Do you know if he has a knife? Gun? What happened before the video started rolling?
The answer is NO. Officers cannot afford to be put in dangerous situations so that they don't get judged by forum potatoes. The #1 job of an officer is to go home at the end of a shift. You're like the fifth person ITT to make assumptions that they were drunk and "phucktards". No one was there, and we don't know what happened so let's focus on the evidence in the video.
The dude's friend was already stressed, understandably so, and you can clearly hear him exercising restraint while trying to ask what his friend did. As others have pointed out, what you can say to an officer and at what point it becomes obstruction is often grey area and also varies state to state.
But I'll even give you the benefit of the doubt here and say the dude should have went away. So the cop proceeds to tell him to back away, wait just kidding the cop doesn't say a word and decides instead to just shove the guy without giving any orders.
Even still, the dude goes away, leaving the cop with a "**** you" for the push. Apparently you think that justifies getting thrown over a car, then thrown to the ground, then punched in the face twice, then arrested.
So even if the dude was acting inappropriately or even illegally, the cops reaction was still absurdly brutal for the circumstance, hence the thread title.
A bunch of my buddies are cops and they would never beat the **** out of someone because he said "**** you" as he backed away. The cop butchered this call, no question about it.Civilize the mind but make savage the body

I know all about it. I had actually misstated what I was talking about in my post, but I've changed it.
You know, it's not like the guy was going to stab a cop in front of 4 of his buddies. The police should not react like the military would, and the fact that a lot of police are former military is a large part of the problem.

At least be honest and stop massaging the facts like Michael Moore. Dude STEPPED in to levy the comment and by doing so got waaaaaaaayyyy too close to the situation. You wanna help your friend, stand back and film. Nothing wrong there. Better yet, don't be a douche and find out how you can help your friend get out of jail or detox instead of trying to chit on the cops because you feel they are doing something wrong to your boy.
But like others have said, the entitlement generation that you are defending think they can act however they want without consequence. Police are not going to change their actions and protocols because of idiot college kids.
And to your first point, you weren't there so how do you know he wasn't previously warned about getting to close? Oh wait, you can make assumptions because you hate cops but anyone else who supports the cops can't do that.

Somehow I am supposed to keep my cool around obnoxious drunk retards in a bar but cops have the freedom to deck people for being a jack ass.
You want to say the idiot interfering should have been arrested? Fine. Why obviously lose your temper and throw him to the ground and punch him? Why not approach the man and tell him to put his hands behind his back. Cops are the ones being paid to be a responsible law official here, if you can't keep your cool in a situation like this what the fuk are you going to do when the stress is even greater and your gun is drawn?
No cop hate but I hate when people blindly support **** like this like it is ok. Yeah their job stinks. Yes it is extremely stressful. No that does not give you the right to fly off the handle.

ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I have awoken from my slumber.
1) The kid was a ******* and got what he deserved.
2) The cop punched him in the face repeatedly with complete disregard for the surrounding environment.
This was police brutality and unprofessional AND the kid got what he deserved.
The bottom line is this:
When you have the ability to change the course of a kids future you dont punch him in the face when you feel threatened, no matter how much he needs it.

Cliffs of thread:
brb, NOTHING happened prior to the 1:41 video therefore everything in the video is enough to implicate the officer as using excessive force.

both parties are in the wrong,
first off the dude should have not said "fuk u" up close to the cop while he was making arrest
2ndly, the cop lost his cool and clearly went overboard with his actions.
its clearly police brutality. PERIOD. the cop did not handle himself well.
edit : if i was the cop and the guy said fuk you to me, i'd tell him to fuk off before i arrest u. thats IT, he didnt have to go berserk. he lacked mental fortitude and control.Last edited by ThisIsTheMatrix; 04-23-2014 at 09:11 PM.
