Really? Wasn't as high as some football squats, but would have gotten reds for depth in the IPF for sure.
That's an impressive squat! I'm not sure why people are surprised that a huge guy who probably lifts weights all the time can lift a lot. It's impressive, but let's be honest: football players SHOULD be strong even if they aren't also the best squatters.
It actually reminds me of Ray Williams. People forget that he isn't some seasoned PLer. He squatted 860 at something like his second or third competition. I competed with him at one of his first comps at his squat attempts were 600, 700, 800, and he smoked all of them. Now he's doing over 900. He wasn't some veteran PLer--just a football coach who had lifted weights for a long time.637/390tng/615 - belt/wraps, best gym lifts.
600/370/600 - best competition lifts.
575/330/560 - best competition lifts at 181 raw.

I agree. A lot of these NFL prospects are some of the greatest athletes in the world. Most of them only lift to get stronger 4-6 months out of the year. The rest of the time they're just lifting to maintain and not get hurt. It was without a doubt high squat and there were no commands and his spotter was holding his chest up. Still, the guy as strong as fckkk. I doubt he will ever a be a powerlifter in his life so I also doubt he cares what we think of his form with regards to powerlifting

Hickson squats high and get's red lighted for it.
So yeah uhh.
I was referring to squatting and benching 4x a week. Your logic here is strong and stubborn I must admit. You think it's beneficial to excessively squat and bench? An excess of ANYTHING is detrimental to your health.
I was having the same argument with my PL buddies a while back
They found it unbelievable that some shot putter did a ridiculously heavy incline bench or some other guy, also a thrower, had a huge squat (can't remember the exact numbers, or who those people were, but you get the point)
I had to explain to them that very few genetically gifted guys go into powerlifting and that they choose those sports instead
When a guy who has great genetics competes and trains PL, then you have guys like Malanichev, Magnusson, Spoto,...
But an average thrower/NFL player/sprinter/... after some specific PL training would destroy 99% of the competitionbest raw lifts (in competition):
squat 350 (772 lbs) - belt and wraps
bench 210 kg (462 lbs)
deadlift 320 kg (705 lbs) - belt

here's a far fetched idea..let's give credit to a 19-22 year old squatting 810lbs lower than 98% of people who go to regular gyms while doing it in a shirt, shorts, and no belt. Honestly, I'm more impressed with that than a lot of squats in PL meets because he's training to be an athlete not a powerlifter. He still has to train for speed, acceleration, agility, and his position work.
