In a lot of States tippers are only paid $2.13 an hour. If the tips they receive don't cover the difference to minimum wage, their employer has to pay the difference as per federal law.(http://www.dol.gov/elaws/faq/esa/flsa/002.htm)
Servers feel an entitlement to a tip, regardless of service. The vast majority have said if you don't tip and they see you again they will spit in your food and tell others too as well. Not one server on that page spoke out against people doing so.
Most likely servers would rather be tipped than paid minimum wage because they can make much more in tips and under report it to tax man so they keep the general public under threat that their food will be tampered with and shame non-tippers at every opportunity, even though it is optional.
They expect like 20%, regardless if the meal was $500. They try and tell people food prices will go up considerably if they don't get tipped, which is BS because there are chain restaurants in different states where in one servers are paid min. wage and others where they are given the $2.13 plus tips/or flat min wage if tips don't cover. In these two identical restaurants meal prices are the same. Markup on food and drinks is ridiculous. A $20 steak isn't going to all of a sudden cost $40.
Also, they think too highly of what they do. They want people to think it is the most difficult job and demands skilled individuals. I can't imagine most people want to give money away they don't have to. I understand having a server that just blows you away and you want to tip them, but there is such an entitlement culture. They will say "if you can't tip you can't afford to eat out" etc. It really is extortion under threat of meals being tampered with imo to get more than the minimum wage they are entitled to.Last edited by wake_me; 04-23-2014 at 04:32 AM.

Been laughing since the first thread. Surprised it took off as much as it did and that as many people believed it as they have. The best satire is that which has a genuinely realistic basis and can't be distinguished from the genuine article.

So it seems like you write for both pleasure and profession. That's basically the keys to a happy life right there, when you do what you love.
I have a sneaking suspicion Anne Gus will be back. When you get hit with some nugget of inspiration, it will be tough as hell to turn away from it. Anyways, good luck bro-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good job OP. I clicked on your original thread when it first popped up and read the article. It was hilarious at the amount of jimmy's being rustled but I didn't read any additional articles, as I too got rustled by the women that actually agreed with your article.
I wish you all the best in the future bro. Since I now know that your cover has been blown, I'll keep an eye out to read anything else you put out.
