That's a big misconception. A shotgun blast won't spread out much in a standard room. It'll still be pretty easy to miss. I'd rather have a lot of rounds.

But really, OP. If you hadn't woken up he would have still thought you were the right person and hacked you to death in your sleep. Sends chills down my spine thinking about it.

Hard to say. Depends on the gauge/wall thickness. It definitely still has the chance of penetrating walls. It might penetrate a little less than a .45 but the danger is definitely still there. There have been plenty of studies done on this you can google.. the general consensus is be sure of what's behind your target when shooting anything.
