How to get my cousin to lift?

-Okay, so I have a 12 year old cousin, that literally sits inside all day playing games. He never gets any exercise besides going downstairs to grab a snack. He is about 5'7 1/2 and weights around 175 lbs..
He is a big boy, great for football. The problem is he is lazy. I've tried so many different things to get him to start lifting/training with me. I have tried to get My brother (used to be the same, except skinny,) to talk to him. my brother regretted not playing sports or lifting back than. I changed my brother but i can't seem to affect my cousin, please help me out? I just don't want him to throw his life away.

The real question here is: when are you going to start lifting, OP?

Be a good example to him. It's hard to change people's lifestyle directly, not that it is impossible though. This is lifestyle we're talking about. It's something that he is already comfortable with.

I've attempted to diet down several times, and it only finally took off for real after 3 years of try, and that desire came from my inner self. Several people has advised and motivated me into it but it only needed my own desire and choice to do it.

Maybe he just doesn't want to lift at that age... trust me he will want to when he's like 15/16 and his friends/whole school are doing it. For the time being just get him to run or something, and if he doesn't leave him be i'm sure he will want to change at some point. you cant make him

He's 12 and sounds happy enough. Let him play his games.

He's not harming anyone, except for the n00bs he's undoubtedly thrashing at Call of Duty.

Of course he is going to want to in a few years. But come on, hes going to be new at the sport and to lifting, I'm trying to look out for him, trying to make him a star at the sport he plays. Making him start young so he won't regret starting as a freshmen... Get me ? But i guess ill just let him come to me instead, thanks guys.

That's the thing. He WANTS to play football, and for football you need to lift. the thing is, he is extremely lazy. I try to motivate him but he doesn't get motivated. I want him to go to a good college and all, that's why i want him to start young, i regret not starting when i was in middle school.

Yeah the problem is they don't realize the importance of building muscle and what it will do for the sport. Eventually if he is really that fat he may end up getting made fun of sooner hopefully rather than later. Its a harsh way to do it but that will motivate anyone really quick. Even at that age if you can get him to do per say 20 push ups every hour, maybe some pull ups anything would help.
