Bodybuilding doesn't go hand in hand with tattoos, technically speaking.
They will be a disadvantage if they're noticed...how much of a disadvantage, that's up to how it'll look on your skin and if it'll hinder detail.
Dorian/Wolf/Levrone, they all have/had tattoos on stage but it wasn't noticeable enough to be a significant disadvantage.

I have a sleeve that has a lot of color and would not suggest color--specifically red. The skin seemed to reject it a lot, and it will constantly need to be touched up. I would say think about black and grays with minimal color.
As far as bodybuilding, IMO, I haven't seen a top guy recently with a lot of work...so not sure how far you want to go, but thats what I would go by anyway."Suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret!"

Everyone has tattoos these days. Stand out from the crowd by hand painting yourself everyday.
''There’s this battle over waterboarding at places like Guantanamo Bay. I think that they should just say, “Hey, if you guys don’t talk, you have to see Hercules In New York.” I guarantee those guys would talk much faster. You don’t need to do waterboarding or anything else. That’s the ultimate threat.''

An example of a 'not overboard' tattoo, which IMO, is about as far as it should go.
Bonac,
Doesn't really distract from anything in the BDB but in the MM, if he had lighter ink or didn't have any at all, the striations would be more apparent and it would unify his skin tone, giving him a cleaner color but it doesn't affect him that much.
