How do you know? It was my understanding most methods of calculating calories burnt, even with HR monitors etc can be rather inaccurate.

They are. I have no idea how many calories I burned but years ago when I was in really good shape my pt at the time said she wondered how long I could do the stairmaster for so naturally I took the challenge and did it for 2 hours.

I've burned ~1000+ or so playing softball (acc'd to the Body Media when I used to wear it). But I just use the scale and adjust intake over time without considering expenditure too much. Or I should say, without considering the exact # of caloric expenditure, because I am aware of being active ( or parking farther from places, etc.)

Prolly 2500+ cals when marathon running. Could still get up to about 1500 on long runs these days.

Body Media, Body Bugg, Machine calculators don't show your neat calorie burn but gross which includes your metabolism.
You must remove 70-80 calories per hour from the total to know what you really burned because of exercise

If I could muster up the motivation to actually do long runs I'd be able to eat so many more cookies. But first I have to runs 2 blocks. My last real cardio was a 4.1 mile run in July.

OP, 900 calories on the elliptical? How many hours are you on there? As already stated HRM's aren't going to be accurate.

    Marathon. Probably around 2620 cals.
I didn't have a monitor on so I'll approximate 100 cals per mile. Although calculations with any degree of accuracy are going to be tough.

    900 on an eliptical?

thats going balls to the wall on it for about 90-120 minutes. If the reader on it said 930, unless you are obese, it was probably more like 500-600.

    okay:

    1) a marathon runner burns 2,500 calories for 2 hours of running : The Olympic Sports that Burn the Most (and Least) Calories – Spry
    2) well trained athletes burn around 5-12 calories per minute for high intensity exercises. That doesn't even assume they can keep it up for say an hour :
How Many Calories Do Olympic Athletes Burn? | kodjoworkout.com

so saying that 2 hours of high intensity + weights = 1600 that means you are BURNING 13 CALORIES PER MINUTE. That's even more than olympians running at full blast for 60 minutes. So yeah, i may wanna rethink your devices.

another study from cal state univeristy. a full on run (10 minute mile) burns 11 calories per minute. Even if you kept that high intensity for an hour (and u don't drop dead!) you burn around 600 calories. Don't forget high intensity works off glucose not free fatty acids - so when you get "low", the aerobic system turns to muscle protein. Chances of losing muscle increases big time during high intensity & cardio (ever wonder why long distance runners are skinny with no muscle?).

So your weight lifting winds up becoming building back the muscle you're losing.

Either way, If you're "burning 1600 calories" in 2 hours - you are on the level of a spartan!

    source: runnersworld.com/weight-l...rn?page=single

    ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22446673

btw: one more thing - this is also not taking into affect the effects of rising cortisol does on your metabolic slowdown of cutting. When you are cutting (and less <20% bf) your body is also fighting you back - high stress and intensity winds up working against you. I suggest taking it a bit 'easy' and fat loss will increase even more. If you hit a 'stall' - you'll know why.

About 3-4k cals or so. Did the Tour of Battenkill race last year which was probably the hardest cycling race I've ever done with the most climbing.

Well........ that would definately explain why my lifts never went up while cutting last time. I was probably doing around 20+ hours of cardio/week "3 hrs+/day" I WON'T make that mistake again. Did lose 50 lbs that time though.

ya roughly the same amount here, 2500+ on marathon days.....typical warmup on the treadmill says roughly 875-900 for a 10k...(running at 7.5mph and a 1.5-2.2degree incline.)
