for anyone with a baby face, you really need facial hair to pull off long hair, particularly if you don't have strong masculine facial features or are short/small framed. otherwise you risk looking like a woman- if you're fine with that then go at er.
for Twinbrah, even a 5' O'clock shadow would be fine but as it is, IMO it doesn't suit you.

13th Warrior GOAT movie bruh
That scene always gives me such chills.. Used to have the scene where Herger talks about how the All Father wove the skein of our lives long ago in my sig.
But yeah, part of the Viking crew. Most common compliment is that I have Thor hair lmaoPIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way.
GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?
GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad.
GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.

ok, here's the deal. I'm black and wanna try dreads at least once in my life before I get too old to do it. I want really small dreads (like Eddie Lacey). I don't want that thick hippie shit because the thicker they are, the harder they are to dry and if they don't dry properly, they'll literally start to mold on the inside (hence the notorious smell associated with them). I've been doing a lot of research but I still have a few questions;
-I know that there is a lot of shrinkage involved when the hair is dreaded, if I want a decent amount of length (at least dreads that cover my ears) how long should I wait before I get it done? I've only been growing my hair out since July 2014 so I know I have a lot more time...I just don't want little nubs sticking out of my head.
-What is the difference between salon dreads and home-made dreads? I really want to have it done at a salon because I'd like to see it done professionally, I don't want to go into this completely blind and end up screwing up my hair.
-washing is my main concern. I'm pretty active in the gym and whatnot, I sweat pretty hard at least 6 days per week. I know you can wet your hair but you're only suppose to wash it every week or so.....that is faaaaaar too long between washing for me and there's only so much water can do (in terms of natural odors). I know I can use the ACV and baking soda combination, but I read that that is really strong and should only be performed once a month or so...........so, could I use a sulfate free shampoo more frequently?
-Also, what about conditioners? I know you're not suppose to use any because it loosens up the dreads and if so, how do you prevent the inevitability of dandruff if you can't moisturize your hair/scalp?

i have thick dreads because if you want skinny dread might as well get braids. i had like 6 baby dreads, and i combined them, i have about 30 thick dreads at the moment.
the longer your hair is, the easier it will be for to dread. unless you go to a saloon, then you can start at any length.
im 100% opposed to any method other than natural, because all other forms damage your hair and scalp. the only method thats not so damaging is twist and rip method, but thats actually a slower process than straight up natural.
i used to box and ride a motorcycle every day. had something on my head alot of the time. still washed my hair 5x times a week.
have you ever washed a dog? hair gets matted, and scrungy, thats why you gotta comb a dogs hair before you wash it. as long as you dont comb your hair, you can wash it as much as you want...as long as you dont use any conditioner either.
and dont use conditioner, just get the right proper shampoo. conditioner is almost absolutely a must not. sorry i wish i could ty0pe more but im super behind on my paperI used to have an AVI of my traps and neck. I changed it a while back and tried editing my user title but this website is glitched and it will not let me change it anymore.

thanks that was a lot of help. Go ahead and finish your paper before you respond, but I have a couple of other questions;
-for your dreads, how do you dry them? Do you use a blow dryer? I was told that using direct heat is "ill-advised"
-Since you can't use a conditioner, do you ever have problems with dandruff? I feel like it may become an issue if I don't use some kind of moisturizer in my hair....
-what kind of shampoo are you using? is it a generic "store brand/Suave" shampoo or should it be sulfate free?
You've got me kind of excited about this "journey" of mine again. Most people that I bring it up with (even hypothetically) have advised against dreads, but i'm determined to follow through with this. I guess since you've had no problems with thicker dreads, I could at least leave them open for consideration. I was against them because of how resilient they are to holding water and inevitably leading to smells from mold, but If you've been able to manage yours then maybe i'll change my mind in a few months time. I would post a pics of Eddie Lacy's dreads, but I don't have the post count and I don't feel like butchering a URL just to post them, but if you look at his dreads that is that I'm aiming for. I also like them because I feel like they'd compliment my head shape.Last edited by Zyonasan; 12-08-2014 at 10:19 PM.

you should hear how people describe their dreadlocking journey, its af it they where on shrooms or something man lol. but to be honest it is pretty gnarly. I just wanted dreadlocks, because its very metal, and it fits my hair style( nappy hair), but i almost feel like a different man, i feel free( no hippy).
drying, unfortunately is a hassle like you described. its about the only real maintenance i need on my hair. if i dont do anything to my hair it will take over 6 hours to dry. but you can speed it up drastically. heat is pretty bad for your hair, no homo but i do use a blow dryer, mine comes with a 'cool' option where its pretty much just only a tiny bit warm, i only use it for a few minutes if i need it to dry fast( like when i go to the gym at night and gotta sleep soon). i have thick ass locks, i can dry them in an hour if really want too. in the early stages i used a dry blower a lot. would squeeze hair, pat hair dry with towel, then hair dry for 10 minutes, that would get em dry in about 45 minutes.
palm rolling helps speed up the process, and you cant really harm your hair doing it, some people think it can be damaging...but you have to go pretty full retard to do that. palm rolling helps with dandruff. otherwise i just violently bang my head. i only get dandruff from a certain shampoo which im gonna stop using. i use a sulfate free all vegan shampoo from dreadlockshampoo smells great and relatively cheap.
there are several alternatives for cleaning your hair and scalp, but i keep it simple in everything. just shampoo your scalp and you should be fine and not have much if any dandruff.
if you have patience recommend having someone do a twist and rip method ( in small sections like you desire) which basically means just separating the hair in braid like twists, and let them follow its course form there... and SEPARATE often since you dont want big locks. Keep in mind you wont be able to get twist and rip method done at a saloon, youd have to have a friend do it most likely. at a saloon they will use a crochet hook, its painful and you will lose a lot of hairs, and you cant really wash your hair because they will put wax on your hair to keep it in place. not to say that some people dont have nice healthy saloon dreadlocks, but i just personally dont risk it. especially since its higher maintenance.
here is me about 1 month after i combined my mini locks, about 3 months total. u need a lot of patience. i use a filter because my hair is really black and the dread are not as noticeable without the filter.

Hah nice thats pretty much the response I expected. I feel like everything is falling in place. I just saved that dreadlockchampoo site in my favorites.
as for going to the salon, I was reading up on that and I was also kind of turned off by the wax and their process (and the $460 price for the startup), but as for the twist and rip method....I've never seen that process done with black hair. I guess it would work, but it seems like a technique best used on straight hair. I have cousins that have had dreads and they never used a method like that. In fact they did something similar to a sponge/brush/towel rub. where the dreads form by rubbing the hair with a sponge or towel....of course I can't post links, but there are a lot of videos of the technique on youtube.

I saw similar techniques early on but they usually involved using wax afterward. So I didn't really look much into it.
I slept with wool pillows and use wool beanies. Helped a lot I think. But I didn't force it.
Well the twist and rip would just be so you could section it more precisely since u might be picky about width, but either way you can do it as it goes naturally too, just not as easy. Mine are messy, but I kinda wanted them like that. You can definitely keep them more neat if you separate them often.
But yeah the easiest cheapest and fastest way to get dreadlocks is to just stop combing and conditioning lol.
well I guess technically not fastest because crochet hooks give them the mature look right away, but they too take time to mature fully as well from what I've readI used to have an AVI of my traps and neck.
