They'll have to adapt. If these 3d printed houses are proven safe and viable, it's going to happen. All those trades people will have to move on to other professions. There are very few safe and essential careers that have higher chances of surviving technological progression. Everyone else should expect and prepare for the worst.

You obviously don't understand accelerating computational power and its soon to be effects on the labor market. Unemployment will be at 50% within 30 years.

    automated check outs
    automated parcel/food delivery
    automated cars
    automated construction
    automated taxes (new intelligent software)

the list goes on for ever. past circumstances have allowed people to find employment elsewhere when computers/robots took their jobs because computers were not yet good at generalized reasoning and physical capabilities. those human advantages will be totally eroded within our lifetime.

There's other potential fads you'd have to worry about before 3-D food.

Singularity poses too great an existential risk on all humanity, even the creators, for many of this to be realized once the technology to do so is available.

well the technology for most of the things on that list already exists, mostly were just waiting on legislation to legalize it into practice. Drones are already doing deliveries in the United Arab Emirates, driverless cars are already cruising the streets of California, as you can see from the OP a lot of construction is already able to be done using 3d printing tech etc.

none of that has achieved technological singularity yet. not what I'm referring to.

the future of machines seriously has always scared the **** out of me srs

im not college educated etc but everything is so simple now. i used to look at the **** plumbers made back in the day drains and stacks made with copper with the bends and junctions done by hand. no way this is done now far to expensive and slow. Also in my class i was about one of the few guys who could oxy weld well most of the class always used rehau to do water and gas services. so much cheaper faster user friendly. the fact within 20 years there will be almost no need for anyone to work construction scares me, there will be no need for any workers in mines WA australia im pretty sure already has dump trucks that work remotely.

like the fuq kindve work are people going to do, fix machine, maintain machines what else?

there will truly be the "working class" and the upper elite and thats it.

More like the welfare class. Without jobs it will either become a top down welfare state, in which taxes on corporate profits pay for the subsistence welfare of the masses or the entire system will just collapse.

Im not too sure why everyone is jumping on the 3d printing bandwagon now. Im willing to bet its going to be a very long time before 3d printing anything is really practical. It took me 8 hours on a 5000$ printer and about 4$ worth of plastic to print a simple design that didnt even print correctly. Factor in the know how to create the file, change the printers settings, add a raft etc, etc, etc and they just are not practical at the moment. 3d printing has been around for a long time and its probably just going to dominate the rapid prototyping industry like it always has. As for 3d printing homes, you can probably build a monolithic dome much larger and faster and cheaper.

Is this the begining of the end? Srs

If 3d printers print literally almost everything then will the world be way too overpopulated compared to jobs and will that lead to either a mass extermination or mass comunism
