Strange question to ask others what you should like in terms of music. It's really a personal choice. If you want to listen to Air Supply or Barney & Friends and it makes you have a great workout then perfect!
I personally listen to anything rock when working out - the heavier the better. But if someone told me EDM, techno, or rap would result in me having a better workout then I'd rather stab my eardrums then listen to any of those.
Again it's all a personal preference.

I don't do Metal. In Fact, I don't do lyrics most days. I usually have hip-hop, juke/footwork, or glitch-hop in my ears when I'm working out.
Here is a playlist:

Oh, and here's the closest I can get to Metal

Why in the world is this not in the O35 misc? It sure as heck doesn't belong here!
And what a lame thing to do ask others what you should be listening to for music. For crying out loud I never pay a lick of attention to the music playing I'm there to lift not listen to tunes. Was friends with Methuselah

I basically listen to the same stuff i grew up on. Zeppelin, Sabbath, that sort.
I also like gospel and a sprinkling of classical.
Blues is one of my favorite genres as well.
I cant stand pop music, it has no passion. I need to listen to artists who have actual talent, not auto tuned mindless crap.
When the stones got popular they moved to the south of france and bought a villa and would spend months there partying and writing their next album. Can you imagine how much fun that would have been?
Do you think katy Perry locks herself in a hotel room with a case of scotch of doesnt shower until the new album is just right? Of course not, these talentless hacks just sing what they are told to sing and if they dont hit the note or even remember the words, thats ok, they just dub it in.
I cant stand working out to the radio because you have to wait to hear the songs you like so i have an old beater mp3 player loaded with the stuff.
You are from texas man, download some stevie ray vaughn and zztop and you are well on your way.

My gym music has to have some aggression to it - be it heavy guitars, pounding bass, thumping drums...there HAS to be something in it to add fuel to my fire. Right now, here's a selection of what I've got going at the gym these days:
I Will Follow - U2
Aenema - Tool
Them Bones - Alice in Chains
Girls Girls Girls - Motley Crue
Highway to Hell - AC/DC
Misty Mountain Hop - Led Zeppelin
Unchained - Van Halen
Sinner's Swing - Van Halen
Stinkfist - Tool
Bullet the Blue Sky - U2
Angry Chair - Alice in Chains
I Fought the Law - The Clash
Looks that Kill - Motley Crue
Peace Sells - Megadeth
Symphony of Destruction - Megadeth
Long Way to the Top - AC/DC

Listen to anything that sparks old memories related to emotion. We want to listen to the most motivational tracks, right? Emotion (anger, happiness, love) is the stepping stone for motivation.
-For example, last summer I blew out my knee playing soccer (still recovering).. One of our warm-up songs was "End of the World" by Lupe Fiasco. Now, every time I hear that song, Im reminded of how fit I was. Its a spark of motivation to get back to that stage.

POD's Alive is the first one I go to in my iPhone. Then random songs. Tom Petty's Won't back down. Lots of 80s stuff. DMX Lord Give me a Sign. Blind Guardian features on my play list too. Depends on where I am in the workout. The bigger stuff at the front end is more important to have a good song. Lighter assistance stuff don't seem to call for Twisted Sister or ACDC.

My only rule for music is the gym itself should play NONE !
The only "music" I want to hear in a gym is metal clanking.
Then people can listen to their own preferred music thru MP3 player to fit their tastes.
My biggest pet peave with gyms is when they feel the need to pump some techno or salsa or hip-hop or dance music at 120 db --- so loud you can't even hear your own player in your ears.
The reason ?
Sorry - but there is no music they can select without annoying some % of the members ........ so it is best to play nothing and let each person play their own private choice.
Furthermore -- much of this techno and dance crap is so simplistic and repetitive it is like annoying auditory chinese water torture --- gets irritating and distracting really quick.
Now as for MP3 player choices ?
Iron Maiden, Yngwie Malmsteen, Racer X, Megadeth, Dio-era Black Sabbath, etc....
But often I will play nothing.Michael Spitzer - Author - FITNESS at 40,50,60 and BEYOND

I don't listen to music when I lift. I don't need anyone screaming in my ears to motivate me. And I don't like having to worry about dropping my phone or getting tangled in the wires.
The gym plays some middle of the road type stuff and thankfully they keep the volume down. I pretty much block it out anyway, I'm pretty focused when I'm in there and don't really hear it anyway."It is a mind game, I'm going to win." - EjnarKolinkar
