My favorite cousin (like a sister), a single mom, was walking to her car from the gym in a big NJ town. She was punched in the face full force from behind and left on the sidewalk unconscious. Thankfully a couple of strangers took her to the hospital. No witnesses and police can't help much. Her head is so swollen she can't see out of one eye. The knockout game is something I guess I will never understand. It happens to all ages and an old guy from Syracuse was knocked out dead. 70 years old. My cousin's little girl is having a hard time coping with this as am I.

Sorry to hear that, Coach. Best wishes to your cousin a full recovery.
On a side note - I'm waiting to start hearing more drastic stories surrounding the knockout game. Preferably some major MSM news stories that highlight victims leaving some of these punks laying in the street with their teeth knocked out.

There seemed to have been a rash of these some time back. I don't know if there are fewer of these incidents, or if the major media just isn't covering it much anymore. That sort of blatant, senseless violence is infuriating. Where was it some years ago, Thailand? Public Caning would be an appropriate initial penalty for anyone caught doing this sort of stupidity. Then 3 to 5 years in jail!
Prayers for your cousin.paolo59

I think it was a kid caught for theft and vandalism in Singapore. An American kid so consequently there was a rash of outrage for his sentence of public caning. Not sure what the outcome was.

I agree anyone caught should be publicly canedI'm open to any suggestions and have a difficult time accepting limitations without an honest effort on my part, you can count on that!

I want to see these punks try their little game on an able bodied male, perhaps a real pissed off Navy Seal? I read about crap like this and can't help but wonder just what makes these pricks act like this and also how bad society as whole is getting.
In other news I see Brack got banned, that's way out of character for him."You know that little thing in your head that keeps you from saying things you shouldn't? Yeah, well, I don't have one of those."

OP....
It's all been said in the previous posts.
This story is another one that makes my blood boil.
TBH.....when I hear/read a story of this nature a vengeful rage wants to rear it's ugly head and makes me want to form a reinforced fire team and go hunting for the ilk.
I'm so sorry and hope she and all your orbit can heal from this.

the young and the strong picking on the old or the defenseless...only now the muggers dont take your wallet or your purse
they just egg each other on and take youtube vids and then back slap each other
about how quick that person went down with the first surprise attack and how much blood squirted
desensitization from too much violence on tv
doesnt seem to quite cover it huh?
destruction of public property like driving by and whacking someone's mail box
has now become whacking someone in the face
and with it comes the superman cant touch me mentality

of course I could launch into a whole lot of possible contributers..
permissive parenting
wanting to be your kid's good time charlie buddy instead of his parent
or parents so tuned out and self involved with their own lives they dont know where their kids are
or what they are doing
schools who now have very little ability to discipline the kids without getting sued
parents that dont discipline because its too much of a pain in azz
teenagers who come and go as they please and use mama and daddy as a crash pad
and laugh in their face when they try to ask where they are going
used to be if you got in a fight at school
school called ma and dad
and ya better have a damn good reason for why it happened
if ya didnt
you could expect your hide was gonna get tanned for it
I am sorry this has happened to your sister
and I hope she mends quickly
it is sad indeed the direction this society seems to be headingLast edited by latebloomingmom; 04-11-2014 at 07:42 AM.

Typically what breeds a lack of conscience and/or empathy is trauma of some sort from childhood. Usually, violent criminals had a screwed up childhood of some sort. I'm not saying that's a defense and many kids have messed up pasts and grow up to be productive members of society, but many don't.
Just makes me wonder what creates this type of mindset in a person.
Again, OP--I hope she will be ok. Keep us posted.
