Other universes that we are just unable to detect or observe? Higher dimensional universes? I read somewhere that little universes are popping in and out of existence all the time. Some people believe that there are infinite universes. Some people believe that our universe exists compacted inside a black hole and gravitional forces keeps us trapped there.

Your mum OP. Then the big bang occurred.
"Have faith in the Lord Fifth, gain eternal life! When the Lord Fifth appears, who dares to cause strife!"

"Heyyy. Hi there! Hello! Im Lord Third. Let me tell you something, do you know how high I can count? I can count to three"

Little Haowie, dont you worry, it said, eyes shining brightly. My dream is that, upon entering the Black Lands, there will be people there shouting the name of Lord Fifth. Then, my two great armies will join together to become like my wings!

But how can an entire universe come out of nothing? This apparently violates the conservation of matter and energy. But there is a simple answer.

Matter, of course, has positive energy. But gravity has negative energy. (For example, you have to add energy to the earth in order to tear it away from the sun. One separated far from the solar system, the earth then has zero gravitational energy. But this means that the original solar system had negative energy.)

If you do the math, you find out that the sum total of matter in the universe can cancel against the sum total of negative gravitational energy, yielding a universe with zero (or close to zero) net matter/energy. So, in some sense, universes are for free. It does not take net matter and energy to create entire universes. In this way, in the bubble bath, bubbles can collide, create baby bubbles, or simple pop into existence from nothing.

This gives us a startling picture of the big bang, that our universe was born perhaps from the collision of two universes (the big splat theory), or sprouted from a parent universe, or simply popped into existence out of nothing. So universes are being created all the time. (But Hawking goes one step farther and says that therefore here is no need of God, since God is not necessary to create the universe. I wouldn't go that far. See a previous blog entry on my attitude towards that.)

Lol you're the type of guy who watches Makio Kaku videos on youtube and think they're some sort of physics wizard. Why don't you do your own research and give your own opinion you little bi tch, instead of quoting some physics enthusiast who oversimplifies probably the most complicated question in existence.
And that little quote didn't really answer much. You just proved my point. There is no such thing as "nothing". Positive and negative energy is still something, even if they add up to produce 0.

It is something we can't comprehend, theres no point in trying to do so.

Like imagine an ant in a big ant farm. He looks up and sees the sun and clouds.

Do you think he can comprehend what the sun is ? We are just a step up from ants in the grand scheme of things

The Big Bang theory is literally "nothing turned into something" so there was nothing then nothing exploded. That's why the universe is still expanding because the Big Bang theory is still happening. So still today nothing is turning into something.

The answer is that everything traveled so far away from the center of the universe at the same rate at all different directions, everything all arrived back at the same point at the same time and thus the cycle started over much like a heartbeat.

It'll continue for all of eternity.

All possible, but you also had a classic human-centric experience by assuming because you can't fathom or understand something does not mean others can't/don't. If genuinely interested, a good read for the non scientist:

I thought one of the leading theories on the "end" of the universe is that it will continue expanding forever, and get to a point where it is essentially dead as every energy particle will be too far apart from one another to interact.

lol ya this is the question that science it trying to figure out and religion says just happened. Even if there is a god who created us it doesn't explain who created him. With everything we solve it just reveals more layers. Gets deeper and deeper making it impossible to truly figure it all out.

I thought this is pretty interesting for people who ask " who created God then"
I believe in God etc, but dont care what other people believe, if you dont thats fine.

inb4 people rage and bash on me for posting a link.

    http://www.godandscience.org/apologe...eated_god.html
    and this maybe
    http://creation.com/who-created-god

    Conclusion:
God has no need to have been created, since He exists either outside time (where cause and effect do not operate) or within multiple dimensions of time (such that there is no beginning of God's plane of time). Hence God is eternal, having never been created. Although it is possible that the universe itself is eternal, eliminating the need for its creation, observational evidence contradicts this hypothesis, since the universe began to exist a finite ~13.8 billion years ago. The only possible escape for the atheist is the invention of a kind of super universe, which can never be confirmed experimentally (hence it is metaphysical in nature, and not scientific).

Energy cannot be created or destroyed so it has always been here... just, maybe not in the form we now see/know it.

I think it compacts down into something so small, for a split second it does disappear and that is what causes the next big bang. Thing is the energy only "disappears" from this dimension or whatever, it can't be contained in the other dimension so it explodes and flips back into 3D again.

the problem is you can always ask "and what caused that"

so, if you say that the universe came to be as a result of the big bang, then what caused the big bang?

then, some believe that there are multiverses, and when the multiverses contact one another, it causes a big bang

    well, what caused the multiverses

and so on, and so forth

the only logical conclusion is that it is infinite. everything that exists has existed forever, and will exist forever, it just changes form. all the cells in your body were once part of stars, and will one day return to that form when our Sun engulfs the earth.
